Beat me to it, Budd. It was 2303 and 2306. Don't know what they were doing double-heading, as it doesn't appear the train was late. Maybe a ferry move for one of the AEM-7s.

Meanwhile, 201, 202, and 9001 are still together, running with 258 on train 4219 this morning, on time through Glenside.

Ha...I was going to post about this! I can confirm this was the GVF today. While waiting for #9530 at Radnor this morning, the GVF came through about 5 minutes late with these two units together. I have never seen that before.

2303 has 4 traction motors working but no HEP, 2306 has only 2 traction motors but HEP is working. 2 engines to do the job of one.

It happens...... usually to NJT and AMTRAK...... but it happens. If a unit can't get shopped for something why not use it for what it CAN do. There was a doublehead thread not long ago over on the NJT side and one engineer who is a regular commented that he had a 10 car Multilevel and two sick 46's; one had a cab signal failure and the other HEP wasn't working right but all eight traction motors worked for over 14,000 BHP.....

The difference at SEPTA is there is only one back up engine. So I guess this will work until the weekend when they can get them both into the shop? I believe this is a very rare occurence on SEPTA.

Really wanted to see them come thru 30th tonight but missed them. Any pictures of double headed AEMs on SEPTA from anyone?

I saw them at Temple on the PM Flyer trip, but too late to get the camera rolling; I had just boarded 9251 there when they came by.

Regarding 258-9001-202-201:

I saw that set twice today, heading to West Trenton on 2372, and then I rode it to Jenkintown on 392 after riding 9251/1256 to/from Newark for a Bomber/Silverliner V trip.

Also, 227 and 228 led 9007 (my stalker Budd *gasp!*) and 203 on 9361 at Temple. And earlier, around 1:20pm while police activity had SEPTA "double-tracking" 20th Street to Vine (all trains at Suburban and Market East were boarding from Tracks 3 and 4 only), Silverliner IV singles 301 and 302 were holding down a train to Temple U.

201-202-9001 are still together, though without 258. They made up a (late) 521 this morning.
And 2303-2306 are still together on the GVF.

258 was the leader on 9555 this afternoon, along with 261, 9012, and 267 trailing. Considering I rode 258 leading 9001-202-201 on 392 to Jenkintown last night, that would have put that set on 393 to Elwyn, then to Media yard, and then up to Lansdale on 3524 this morning, turning for 521... after dropping the 258 there, which may account for it being late. And then a shift would have been needed by whatever train picked up 521 to get it on the south end of the equipment that ended up on 9555...

Oh, anyway, I got off track. 2303-2306 are here in video I shot at Merion tonight, starting the climb out of Overbrook....

Thanks. Yeah, the weekend should be enough time for one of those motors to get back up to 100% again....

I believe 258 was the closed third car behind two Silverliner IV's on train 328 one day this week - either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Since 328 is made up of cars that spent the night in Media, 258 may have been put on 328 rather than 3524 on Wednesday morning, the day of the post that I'm quoting. 328 turns at West Trenton to become 3223 to Wilmington. From Wilmington, this train goes only to Temple University Station and then who knows? Maybe Roberts Avenue for maintenance or to wait for afternoon rush hour.

Three days later, 9001-202-201 were still together on 328.
