We are planning a rail trip for next year from Pt. Pleasant to Atlanta. Our question is navigating and the transfer from the North Jersey Coast Line to Amtrak. Does anyone here know where we can find a floor plan of the station? Also we are seniors and have trouble with stairs, so elevators will be needed.

Go to Google Maps, search for Newark, NJ Penn Station, and zoom in on the station. There is a simple diagram with tracks by number and icons showing escalators and elevators.

Trains from the Coast normally arrive on Track 1, sometimes 2; Amtrak to the south and west leaves from 3 and 4. Connecting with the Crescent, at midday, shouldn't be hectic.

For many years I wished for this information to be available online but it wasn't. Thankfully a year or so ago, it finally showed up on the redesigned site.

To find it yourself, on the home page, hold your mouse over "Maps" in the main navigation menu across the top, then choose Newark Penn Station from the list.

Thanks Paul. I haven't been in that station since about 1971 and then (1967-1971) only to change to PATH from CNJ or PRR. Cross platform transfers.

Every track has elevator and escalator (up only) access, it is an easy station to navigate.

Having recently made the transfer from NJT to Amtrak at this station be forewarned, you cannot sit and wait for a train in the waiting area due to Covid restrictions, the pan handlers are out in force, totally ignored by local, Amtrak and NJT law enforcement, expect to be harassed on a continuous basis. Also be aware the restrooms at Newark Penn are slightly better than outhouses. The station continues to deteriorate in my opinion and should be avoided if at all possible.

So a transfer from NJT Coastline to Amtrak might be better/safer in NYP?

And much more pleasant with the Moynihan Train Hall!

Very true -- the opening of Moynihan changed the whole picture. Absolutely stay on to NYP and change there.

Wear comfortable shoes for that connection. Maybe use the old Amtrak concourse if possible and skip Moynihan.
