Every industry I have seen do that has seriously screwed up the cars shoving them and we always had to cripple them. Broken operating lever, stairs, platforms, air hoses, etc. They probably know what they're doing by now though. Or have their own carknocker lol.

Ehh, not quite, lol. Only a couple years ago they sent a string of loads sailing and right through the bunter at the south end. NHN continually scolds their BS&G counterparts about the damage they do to cars, as well.

Once the North Station/Charles River Draw/Tower A/FX/High Line rejuvination/replacements/redesign/expansion mega-project is complete, BS&G likely won't be able to shove cars like this anymore, as there is very little room between their track and Mainline 1 in the area of the back ladder. Mainline 1 (Tuttle Track and Fast Track) is planned to be an in-service "express" track out to FX, but it is currently OOS.

Three (I think it was three; it was a few hours ago) tie cars going north from Dover today along with the gas, steel, and empties.

Surely there has to be a 44 tonner that they could purchase for cheap money. There's been one on the market in N. Conway the past 14 years. Isn't there another one stored inside in Laconia, NH?

northbound runs from Dover to Ossipee?

Last Thursday I caught a northbound around mid morning north of Rochester. Do they usually do an am run north? If they originate at Dover, any estimate of time that the crew comes on? Thanks

I believe morning north bound runs out of Dover, are normal but I'm sure the times vary, day to day.

NHN crew is usually on duty in Dover at 7 am and out of town, headed east and north, by 8 if there is no switching to do. If there is gas and/or steel to pick up in the yard they'll leave later.

The loader does have a knuckle mounted to the chassis, but I’ve never seen them use it.

I was able to catch the NB yesterday at the old Union station. Impressive lease unit in the lead. One of the NHN units looked pretty sharp with a new paint job...or it seemed pretty newly painted.

Nice picture. Does anyone know when NHN passes Rockingham from Dover to Boston usually? It occurred to me recently I have never seen it.

Amtrak #687 is due at Dover at 7:51 PM. DOBO will leave Dover after that.
If the NHN brought down empty LPG or steel cars, those have to be set off
at Dover before departing. D2 usually gives DOBO a Form D to leave Dover
over the radio. Travel time from Dover to Rockingham probably runs in the
30 minute range. A late #687 or a PAR through job could set things back.

Looking forward to the day when we don't have to worry about single track territory on the Freight Main Line in New Hampshire ...

Has that actually ever been discussed or just wishful thinking? Obviously having double track would be great but is it really necessary with current train counts on that segment?

It's not that unrealistic especially given the likely introduction of a sixth roundtrip for the Downeaster.

Anyone know if the NHN locomotives will have to have PTC installed to
operate between Plaistow and Boston on the MBTA? If so, what is the
projected deadline? Thanks....
