It was stated in January's Fiscal Management Control Board meeting that the option for the remaining 26 units will be exercised, meaning all of the stretch F40s will be rebuilt.

At this rate it's only a matter of time before the T reverses course on the Geeps and sends them off to be rebuilt into MP32s, complete with HSP46 cabs...

Should be in Middleboro this morning, then Mass Coastal to Rochester.

visually confirmed in Middleboro this morning off of B726, arrived at 8:25AM. The 1054 was left attached to a cut of freight cars on the Middleboro Secondary in yard limits. Was told Mass Coastal will be by in a few hours to pick it up and go to Rochester. ALSO, another F40 is almost ready to come home in a few weeks, and a 3rd just entered the paint booth

I'm eagerly awaiting to see these units in service. Something about the F40 that I can appreciate more than the HSP46. A majority of the trains that I ride with a HSP seem to suffer from some form of mechanical failure. Personally, if the T doesn't make a serious move to aquire a Charger diesel, then at least try to obtain the Genesis locomotives that will hit the market at some point

Currently 1066 and 1074 are oos, awaiting major engine repairs at BET, yet I saw 1074 sitting in the readville yard attached to switcher GP40-MC 1119. I imagine that they will be sent out next to be rebuilt after 1054 and another rebuilt is tested and accepted into service since they have excersized the remaining option to overhaul 26 additional F40PHM and PH-2C's increasing the total order to 36. Not sure if 1056 or 1062 is part of the order since they are massdot units. However, the original F40's are retired. They are stored in Rochester awaiting the bids to blow torch them (scrap) just like 1009, 1014, and 1016.

The 1074 was brought to Middleboro. From there it goes west on CSX for Boise sometime this coming week.

1066 will be next after a couple more rebuilds get accepted to service upon completion of testing since it is major repairs oos just like 1074 was.

Didn't 1066 just have engine work done a few years ago?

1066 was apparently rebuilt in 2012.
