The NS OCS just passed through Big Flats a short time ago. According to a Facebook report, the train might encounter a traffic jam in Binghamton with NS 22K and 28N both being in the yard.

Speaking of yesterday, NS 310* had DPU on the end of the train. To the best of my knowledge, this was the first train on the Tier to employ DPU.

*-not to be confused with the current NS 310, which has the CNJ unit

They ran first one few weeks ago. And they had one running on August 8th, Wed with 8181/7538 and 1062 as dpu. Thrs' 310 had NS/FEC and CP, as DPU.

310 with CNJ were supposedly to have DPU but apparently CNJ was cut off from rear and put at front. (don't know if it actually did had DPU at the beginning of the trip.

It wasn't. CR experimented with it back in the early 90s. Some of the new C40-8Ws were equipped (about a dozen of the second batch IIRC) and at least a handful of trains, including BUOIs, tried it on the Tier.

There is a speed restriction from MP 268.4 to MP 268.3 on the Tier, as per a Facebook report. This is likely due to weather conditions. The track in Big Flats was under water at MP 281 yesterday.

LETCHWORTH BRIDGE

I will be in Hammondsport for a week in late September, and would love to get views of trains on the new bridge.
Is there any sort of regular time that I might get lucky?
Family will be with me, but they don't usually like to hang around for hours while I wait for a train.
Thanks,
Lee

NS has 8 daily trains crossing the Genesee Arch Bridge these days- 22K, 23K, 28N, 287, 309, 310, 36T and 37T. To the best of my knowledge, 309 goes on duty in Binghamton around 11 AM these days and 36T goes on duty in Buffalo during the early afternoon. NS 28N tends to be a mid-day train. With that being said, the times these trains cross the Genesee Arch Bridge can vary depending on the work they must do in various yards, as well as waiting on sidings for traffic moving in the opposite direction. Some of these trains can have extra sections- most notably NS 310 (W10) and NS 23K (I3K). IMO, the best thing to do is stay near the bridge for a few hours with a scanner if you want a decent shot at catching a train.

Thank you!

If we bring a nice picnic lunch with us, maybe I can convince the family to spend a few hours there.

NS has halted trains on the Tier today owing to flooded track in/near Wellsburg, as per several Facebook reports.

NS 206 ran east of Buffalo overnight, which is the 1st time this has happened in at least 6 months.

NS 8114 aka the original Norfolk Southern heritage unit led NS 287 on Saturday 9/29. The train passed through the Silver Rd crossing in Bethany at 12 Noon and MP 388/Dry Bridge Rd in Alexander at 12:04 PM. NS 28N came up Attica Hill on the siding at the same time and passed MP 388 eastbound at 12:10 PM EDT.
