The defect detector relocated to 264 (from 262) is now announcing itself as "Guilford rail system mp 264.1 detector working. " It was previously announcing itself as
" Pan Am railways mp etc etc " Wondering what that's all about. A "heritage"detector or just PAR ineptitude. Heard it 6 times tonight, when POED, 698 and 697 went by.

Most likely the system defaulted to it's original programming when first used under "Guilford" rail.
They will fix that glitch "whenever" :P

The original programming at 262 was a female voice stating the GRS message, then she switched to the PAR message. Then it was a male voice announcing the PAR message at 262. When the device was moved to 264, it was a male voice and the PAR message. Now its male, GRS at 264. This doesn't sound like a default.

The dispatchers at North Billerica still go by "Springfield Terminal".
Bottom line: With ST, GRS, PAR, even B&M, you never know for sure.
Let's enjoy it while we can. G&W or some other outfit is probably
waiting in the wings with check in hand.

Could just be one of the maintainers having a bit of fun with it. As long as it still checks for defects and announces them properly, it doesn't really matter what the railroad name is on the recording. As I recall, the NECR detector out by Vernon says BNSF instead of New England Central.

Yeah, doesn't matter at all. There was (still is?) a second-hand detector on PAS which said "UP." I bet this detector got some cannibalized parts from elsewhere or something.

They go by Springfield Terminal because thats the actual operator/carrier of the B&M and MEC.

A lot of people have been waiting for someone anyone with that check for a long time!

Isn't there (or wasn't there) one on the west end that announced "Boston and Maine, Hudson River Bridge..." with a thick southern drawl? I heard a recording of it many years ago. The voice was an actual human being, not a computer simulation.

There are 3, one at each end of the Hudson River Bridge and 1 at North Adams with that voice...

Possibly the recycled "brains" of an ATSF/BNSF detector, the "voice" heard around Texas.
