I believe that we all agree that the railways of Zimbabwe are in bad shape. Here's an article form "Railways Africa" on the topic. The good news is that somebody is making money there; the bad news is that it is the bad guys who are making it.

John or George would have more experience, but things work differently in Africa. Rents not paid may be for workers who are not been paid either.
When in West Africa we thought the border officals were very corrupt , asking for bribes to let people through. Then we learnt they hadn't been paid for 6 months. There is undoubteldy a lot of corruption in Africa,and other developing areas, but a lot of it is because they are trying to impose western systems over the local way of doing things.

That is interesting, David. On my railroad, we have had a few bosses who have been convicted of good, old fashioned extortion, soliciting bribes from vendors. One of them is behind bars as we speak.
