No, couldn't make it, but here is an article

"MOUNT ARLINGTON - More than 300 people attended Sunday's opening of
the new NJ Transit station, where trains will stop for the first time
today."

How was the ridership today? Was the parking lot filled?

glad to see such a big turnout yesterday. I'm sure parking will have to be expanded at some point. Too bad no weekend service as well.
two things NJT should do..1. electrify west of Dover to Port Morris..ASAP..
also..electrify to the new wayne park and ride and give that area of the state some weekend service..route 23 on wayne is just as busy with travelers as is a weekend..as is route 80 with the new mount arlington station

Railroad was slow today for the holiday. Trains that normally show up in Hoboken in the morning with 500 to 600 people showed up with only a few dozen.

Markets were closed. And after a read of the headlines today of world markets, that is probably a good thing.

The train ride into Hoboken tomorrow will be pretty quiet. The quiet before the storm.

"You ought to be thinking about expanding the parking lot," state Sen. Anthony Bucco, R-Boonton, remarked from the podium to Mayor Arthur Ondish and NJ Transit Executive Director Rich Sarles, who were both in attendance.
Ha! Finally, a politician with some common sense.

I took off today to ride the Boonty for the first time out to Mount Olive. For an off day, Mount Arlington did have a good amount of cars in the lot. The inbound waiting platform looks quite nice, and has a very rustic feel to it. I do wonder whey there is no TVM here though.

Funny that 300 people showed up for the opening ceremony. Must have meant the parking lot was full :-D

Anthony Bucco and Rodney Frelinghusen(sp?) both said that to NJT and the Mt Arlington Mayor. The mayor has said that he will start commuter shuttles from an old P/R a quarter mile away. There was a mention that the parking lot can be expanded to have 57 more spaces. I think it can be expanded alot more then that and I certaintly don't think a parking deck would be that expensive as the Mayor Ondish claimed. But he did like the idea of buying some land from Hercules to build another lot there and possibly a parking garage.

I say in order to satisfy the current need a 7 to 12 deck garage should be built since after all it is next to Rt 80 and the T Intersection of 46 and 10 are within a few minutes drive. Not to mention to crowd who park in Dover that will switch because they live in Roxbury/Mt Arlington and the surrounding areas. Even more so once electrification expands to PM Yard which in turn will bring weekend service and a one seat ride to NYP.

NJTRailfan, a surface lot costs about $2,000-3,000 per space compared with about $20,000 per space for a parking structure. There is plenty of open available space on the Hercules side of the line for additional surface parking spaces, prior to a parking structure being considered.

Potential ridership numbers were not quoted in the article, but the station needs to prove itself prior to additional parking spaces being constructed. NJT is not going anywhere, so I am sure if additional spaces are needed in the future, they will be constructed.

$3000 for paving one parking spot!!! You can buy office space of that size in Morris County for less than that...

I would LOVE to see the actual breakdown of where exactly that $3000 goes and how it compares to a private company paving parking spots in front of its office.

That prices includes land purchase, design and construction. All taken from a quick search on the internet. Class A office RENTALs in Morris County had been as high as $30 per square foot so perhaps you are confusing a rental fee with a purchase / construction cost.

Now take into account you are in northern NJ, the property adjacent to the station could be in the Highlands Preservation Area or Planning Area, since the boundry was altered to go around this station. The real estate prices for any buildable lots adjacent to the station are quite high due to highway access.

Also remember each parking space needs more than a 9' x 18'. There are driveways, walkways, entrance roads, internal roads, etc. all needed to access each parking space. If stormwater retention / detention basin or water quality measures are required more property is needed and the prices go up.

12 deck parking lot. Do you have any concept of how tall that would be? Most parking decks top out at 5 or 6 decks. I doubt they would even be able to get a permit for a 10 deck lot.

Also, it would take 20 minutes to get out of a 12 deck lot after a train pulls in.

Well we have to think out of the box since again, The area where the station is is right next to Rt 80 and the T intersection for 10 and 46 is only a five minute drive. I said a 12 deck due to there will be people who will switch from Dto Mt Arlington and lets say god forbid the Summer of Hell from 2001 in Denville with the three trucks repeats itself and that will give people an alternative.

Also I'm not sure how much land can Mt Arlington/NJT can get since Hercules will be changed into a condo/retail/light industial/residential/whatever location and developers want certain parts of the land. If a surface lot is planned I do hope enough is saved for a parking lot with a chance to build a large parking garage. As far as getting permission there have been exceptions made before and waivers can be passed. Plus there are quite a few parking structures in AC and even New Brunswick that are at or close to that height

No parking deck that I can think of has anywhere near twelve decks in New Brunswick. The max tops out around six. The casinos in Atlantic City don't even have twelve story parking decks.

Even Metropark doesn't even have a deck that size and that station has significantly more frequent service.
