drop them in Worcester and add them to P582, P506 and P508! all of those trains need more capacity!

(I understand they can't do that - they need to go somewhere to get put back in service...)
But I kind of like those cute little 4-bilevel consists the T has been running lately. They make me feel like I'm in the south...

This may have already been asked but what is the expected life extension of these cars

15 years per the projections for this rebuild program on the T's most recent (and dated) fleet management plan, meaning 2030 retirement if there's no second overhaul program commissioned. This overhaul was programmed in the CIP at the time of the last fleet plan revision, so that should still be accurate save for pushing the dates of the program and the projected retirement dates for the cars up by +4 years to account for the program's late start.

Contract options for the BTC-4A and BTC-4B overhauls, if exercised, would be for the same figures.

the 1705 rebuild is turning out not to be friendly with some of the new locomotives as of late... 2012 for example....reason why 72/74 was a double draft 6/10 right in Greenbush station..as well as another incident yesterday

Is it the same sort of electrical teething issues that the totem cab cars had?

Probably not. The big problem with the Rotems was the spaghetti wiring done at that troubled Philly plant where everything was strung out haphazardly and totally unlabeled for troubleshooting. Wiring for everything, not just one thing. That's one of the big reasons why the R's are going to age so horribly and not make it to overhaul; once connections start to unsettle from years of use, the wiring problems are going to crop up anywhere and everywhere and be a real ordeal to isolate and patch.

The K car rebuild leaves vast majority of it alone and would only touch whatever's being upgraded + the computer dodads being installed. And then one would hope Alstom's electricians were not as pants-on-fire unqualified as Rotem's. So it's probably "normal" teething issue with some very systems-specific modification.

Rotem thread. Discussed extensively on there. Start from the pages in the mid-80's and work backwards if you've got a lot of time to kill.

The four K cars set out on or about June 5th (720-725-726-1703) were finally taken out of town by PAR last night. Caught them this morning as I was inbound on train 202, the K's were in a long string heading back to Lawrence.

1705 was a problem yet again in the last few days, was capped with the 1030 (1057 on the West end). "problem" was fixed during the course of the day, so the 1030 was cut off round 3p Lets see how it behaves
