Well, sad to say, the ACMU's are being put out to pasture. About 10 cars are in storage in Croton East Yard (near the old Croton North Station), and another ten cars are in storage near the site of the old General Motors plant in Tarrytown (on the runner adjacent to the old Chevy Yard). Third rail beams and shoes have been removed. I don't have all the numbers, maybe someone else cares to post them?

Their not in storage but those cars are stripped for shipment to scrapper in PA.

The Chevy cars are1144-1183-1156-1145-1180-1121-1149-1168-1109-1164 next batch to be shipped from nwp are 1154-1159-1166-1105-1130-1133-1185-1115-1131 the east yard in Harmon has 8 cars stored for shippment.

Stupid question, Dutch: Are they all stripped of their 3rd rail gear, or is the set that's running on the December fan trip still intact so it can run without a tow? Thanks.

The cars listed above have been "tagged out" by North White Plains shop. They are not inspected, their propulsion gear has been removed, and third rail beams removed as well. They are waiting for shipment to the scrapper or wherever. The December 5 trip will operate with operating ACMU's- otherwise, what's the point?

Thanks for the clarification (and reassurance). I didn't know how many ACMU's existed in total.

Today two ACMU sets were used when M1/M3's were short on Harlem line. with the acceptance of two more sets of M7's those will be mothballed however for future use and fan trip.

Was talking today (Wed. 10-27) with a friend who works for MNCR and he
said that he thought the 1100's would be scrapped quite quickly as the
price of and market for scrap is high right now.
He said he would not be surprised if the cars were scrapped in either
Tarrytown or Croton and loaded for shipment out of there.
Thought I would add this here.

Noel they are being shipped to Pennsylvania, to a contract scrapper for Bombardier. they are just put in Chevy yard for CSX to inspect and pickup.

"Dutch", thanks for that info, the person I talked with wasn't sure about
that one.

Final run of ACMU's
Tomorrow, Friday, October 29, will be the last run of the ex-NY
Central ACMU's in revenue passenger service. While none are currently
assigned for use, they have been seen regularly on train 528 out of North White
Plains and occasionally on train 516 out of North White Plains. Train 528
deadheads right back to North White Plains and train 516 sits in GCT
all day for train 573 in the PM.

30 ACMU cars will be stored serviceable to be used only in case of a
severe weather emergency. They will all be off the property by spring 2005.

Metro-North will operate a farewell to the MU fantrip on Sunday,
December
5. The info and flyer can be found at
http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/acmu_flyer.htm.
(From All A board list)

my personal observation:
fun part of this is with 30 or so new engineers not having been
qualified on this equipment they won't run in weather emergencies
either. Cause were do you think those 30 junior engineers will be in
a snow storm ??? right called for those snow emergency trains or
yard jobs.
