Mind you , the first Datsun was a bolt for bolt copy of an Austin , so i guess the Japanese cant complain .
Haha yes, and apparently the Datsuns had better build quality!

Indeed, build quality was much better because of Japanese unions. Yes unions. When the assembly line was set up, a number of British autoworkers were sent to Japan for training purposes. Of course, the British workers encouraged the Japanese workers to set up British style labor unions. Datsun management caught wind of the this and took action. Company management announced they were setting up a "union" for Datsun workers. In fact the "union leaders" would be the current management and the "union" would take action to ensure that the company produced quality products. So, Datsun was unionized. Of course, Japanese workers also had tremendous job security until the 1990s, so the relationship between management and labor was mutually beneficial.
