1076 is completely stripped, and so your parts theory might be a sound one. For that matter, the carbody is now very nicely giftwrapped on the non-electrified track at Brentwood:

Wonder what they're going to do with it from there, but I'm guessing it will be scrapped at some point.

1028, when last I spotted it, is still completely outfitted, and as I understand it, hasn't changed much from when it was last in revenue service in 1982.
