Keeping bombs off trains is a good way to make people secure in their persons, not that random screening are the most effective way.

I'll take passive screening by a mechanical device any day over the TSA agent wedging fingers between your leg and a private part.

Sniffing for explosives in a public area has long passed Constitutional muster as a reasonable search. This like many Constitutional rights such as freedom of speech, are not absolute, but rather are limited rights for very rational and valid reasons.
