Imagine getting two roll-around bags through a faregate VS a turnstyle.

Barrier hardware was original designed by Cubic Western along with the distance based fare calculating system and magnetic fare media read, write hardware (magnetic fare media has been phase out and replaced by RFID based contactless fare media). The barriers requires no physical interaction by the passenger as the fare gate unlocks and opens automatically after processing the fare media and closes after the passenger is clears of the barrier.
