Due to defective rail fasteners discovered during routine track walk, Metro is single tracking on the BOS lines between Federal Center SW and Smithsonian stations today during evening commute. I am somewhat amazed that these fasteners are - and have been - defective in an area that has undergone such scrutiny.

Should clarify and say these were 11 consecutive defective fasteners.

29+00 to ~D1 30+00 is 100', there is a hell of a lot more then 11 rail fasteners over a distance 100'.

Me think, there were clusters of 2, 3 or even 4 over that distance, not necessarily being under the same rail.

Metro is single tracking tonight on the Red line during rush hour due to defective rail fasteners discovered near Dupont Circe, and a cracked rail new Grosvenor. http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/metro_ ... m?AID=5816. I am happy they are finding these things, but they seem to keep finding them in the middle of the day and thus requiring rush hour single tracking.

Does all of this mean that the TGV is back in operation? It seems that the procedures for detecting these things have improved. Better than waiting for a train to de-rail.

Yesterday and today's issues were found via manual track inspections. I believe the TGV still only runs overnight.
