Video by drc930 showing both POSE and SEPO recently:

Note the rather green-looking PAR boxcar at 1:49. Did it eat some bad seafood? :P

Or MEC yellow perhaps. (Remember the Glad Sandwich Bags TV commercials: "Yellow and Blue makes Green!")

Temple St, West Boylston all 8 are dirty dirt cars. Pictures on the West Boylston Fire Dept FB page. going to be a couple of days to fix this track. the train is also blocking Temple st, RTE 140, in west Boylston and Boylston. according to reports it will be closed for at least several hours.

Goodness. How many derailments is this for the month of January?

Would it be considered snarky if I appropriated the Mae West line about goodness having nothing to do with it?

The cars behind the derailment (all the general freight and some of the dirt cars) have been pulled west and clear Rt 140 crossing. Don't know if they are going back to Ayer, but I would guess so. Also, the 3 CSX engines from the head end of this POSE train came back to the derailment site and pulled another 15-20 dirt cars from the east end of the derailment. I don't know if these will be added to the dirt cars that POSE earlier dropped at the Greendale siding and then all combined to head west on CSX. Derailment is in a rock cut along an easy right hand curve going uphill from the reservoir - about 4 cars east of the MPX7 milepost.

From the West Boylston Fire Department photos, looking at the roadbed, one wonders where all of the ties are. It looks like the high side rail in the 5th photo is worn and the low side in the same photo is pounded down.

I'm not saying I'm a railroad expert but if you look at what has happened on the Worcester and Stony Brook Lines lately -
1) Increased traffic due to Everett casino dirt cars (I believe sometimes there is an extra SEPO/POSE train run but not sure)
2) Increase in wear and tear from CSX going from 2 locomotives to 3 on SEPO/POSE .
3) On the Stony additional "water" trains
4) Very little track upgrading or maintenance by the railroad.

The end result is what is happening now.
