Sadly there are low standards when getting kosher. The cold portion was partially frozen and it needs to be taken out 24 hours before serving to defrost. Can’t exactly blame that on the dining car attendant. She was on top of her game, whoever was working back in the commissary, not so much.

I assumed a cheese omelette wasn't kosher, but apparently it is.
Depends on what you put in it.

Just a thought…

No pre Amtrak railroad dining car kitchen was kosher. Pans were intermixed, cooking dairy one recipe and meat the next. Ham landed on the same cutting board as roast beef. The meat was not slaughtered in either kosher or Halal tradition.

If you were going to keep kosher on Amtrak, you best bring your own food.

The kosher meals were always prepared off-site, sealed, frozen, and then heated on board while sealed. They’re basically identical to airline kosher meals.

All due respect but we’re in a much different time. In 1971 we still thought rules against smoking or drinking and driving were fun to bend and we had no idea what a balanced diet was, let alone gluten free or organic.

I’m no health nut, but we have made some advancements that are for the better.
