Deustche Bahn (DB) has placed an order with Bombardier for 25 extra Twindexx Vario double-deck intercity EMUs.

The order includes 25 Traxx AC3 locomotives, the fourth call-off from an order placed in 2008, and 124 Twindexx Vario double-deck intercity rail cars, the 10th call-off from a framework contract singed in 2013.

Bombardier will start to deliver the new 25 five-car trainsets, which are earmarked for cross-border services between Germany and Switzerland, in 2019.

Just for the record: the first trains finally got into service in december 2018, but without the permission to run in Switzerland. So far so stupid, the trains aren't even able to run in Germany on schedule, because the Twindexx (called IC2) fail at the stop in Stuttgart Hbf, which should be done 4-5 minutes. The majority of the IC2-services need a few minutes longer because both soft- and hardware sometimes just shut down, which leads to very annoying delays.

The IC-line 61 (Karlsruhe - Nürnberg) should be fully operated with IC2 by first week of february, but now this is cancelled for a new try in march.

On line 87 (Stuttgart - Zürich) the new IC2 vehicles are expected not to run into Switzerland before 2020.
