I'm looking for maps of Oregon logging railroads during the 1920s, primarily in the area between Portland and Astoria. Can anyone recommend a source?
There are several books out there but the one I use is the "Encyclopedia of Western Railroads, Volume II". Looks like it's $35 via multiple online sources and is a very extensive list of past and present railroads.
Caveat is that it is far from perfect, but it's a good place to start. There are numerous books on logging railroads, plus the highly recommended book "The Southern Pacific in Oregon" talks about the SP lines in western Oregon - and often refers to interchanges with logging railroads with quite a bit of good info on the Valley & Siletz, the Weyerhauser lines out of Springfield and Klamath Falls, Coos Bay Lumber, and the Clackamas & Eastern.
