Awesome! Well not awesome that the engine derailed, but its cool that they got them out of the way onto the Vornado Spur! I believe their gonna start using Suburban Propane when the weather gets cooler!

Went past Suburban Propane today... Had a few tankers on the track where the FL9's had been. I guess they're not waiting until it gets too cold.

Also the Amtrak "Automat" and MHC cars at the South Jefferson storage track are gone.

Drove by the ex Amtrak FL-9's on the Vornado Spur this evening and the right side rear wheel is still derailed. I guess M&E doesn't have any use for these engines or they won't anytime soon.

Hmm..I wondered what happened to that automat car when it disappeared from the Pere Marquette about a year ago. So I guess M&E bought it?

Yes, either M&E probably bought it or it is leased out to them from a private owner!

I passed by @ lunch time. 2 M&E trucks were there. There was some work on the tracks under the FL9, couldn't see exactly what.
Hope they plan on using these soon. Glad to see they weren't just shoving them down there to be forgotten.

Of all days not to bring a camera... Oh well.

I spotted that yesterday moning as well. Did you happen to catch the RS (?) parked on the west side of Ridgedale ave? Looks like they might use that to help re-rail the FLs.

The Pook Valley / Ware River RS-1 is at the west end of the siding track on Murrary Road adjacent to the derailed unit.

It's nicely positioned for an afternoon picture if anybody has a hankering for a 50 year old Alco, or a nearly 50 year old FL-9 for that matter.

I don't think the M&E will just abandon them at all after the amount of money they spent on them. I know one or even two maybe used for parts whiel the others wil lbe restored and used on their commuter ops in Maine or even on the charter ops in this area. Simply just letting the equipment sit and rot is not the style of the M&E. Esp with all the money they've spent restoring equipment. It's too bad they can't have the NH paint scheme or even the NYC or Metro North Paint scheme and stylizied the M&E in the same font/text that NYC,NH and MN had their letters in. Now that would be a cool thing to see.

I finally got a couple minutes to post... I have some pics for y'all. Took these on the way home yesterday.

Building up jacking points...

Stablizing the track...

Bringing in re-enforcements... I almost drove down the track when I saw this!!!

I didn't really believe they'd abandon them here... It just had the appearance that they were a little preoccupied and just shoved them under the carpet 'cause company was coming.
Personally, I'd like to see a set painted like the 18...

Question, does anyone know if the flashers and bells still work at the Ridgedale Ave. crossing??

thanks,
Steve

There is still a light active on the control box... Never seen a train through there so I couldn't say if they work, but they seem intact.

I'm glad to see that the M&E didn't just leave those engines to ust out there but rather use that track as a temp storage area. They're yard as is is quite full. alogn with the museum space in Whippany with the vintage cars and engines. Rathert then paitn thsoe in the scheme that the 18 and 19 has I hoep they go with my suggestions I typed above. I would love to see the colors of the NYC,NH and MN scheme but they can use their M&E letters but stylized in the font of the two fallen flag railroads and MN. Now that would be cool to see and woudl make great photo ops for the M&E charter and sightseeing railroad tours. you'll certaintly see mroe railfans and more photos in railpace abotu the FL-9s if they followed that approach.
