Re: Hartford Line CtDOT New Haven-Springfield - NHHS

Not sure how to make of it. I boarded a southbound morning train in Ct on Friday and had to stand. Its only two cars and each car probably only seats 60-64 people. On the other hand, the return trip at night, they only opened one of the two cars. What are the fares north of Springfield? Are they sim...

Double track from just north of Hartford to just south (1/2 mile?) south of Windsor Locks. This includes a 4 mile section in Windsor that is new. (fall 2018)
Double track in Mass to just south of the state line.

Separate question.
Why would the Enfield station cost $50m, the Windsor Locks station cost $65m while Wallingford brand new station cost $21m?

Sounds like $70m of waste.
Which politicians are robbing the state blind?

I would have thought the morning train from New Haven should be extended to Windsor with a bus connection to Day Hill Road. Lots more needed to get this line up to the level it needs to be. And as mentioned, coordinate the schedule so we know at ten minutes past each hour or past each even hour, the...

Why is a portion of the platform in Berlin Ct closed?
This includes a section with a ticket machine.
It does not look like they are doing any construction.

They have a sign saying to enter at the tower location.

Not sure. Wonder if it has to do with reconnecting the freight track (from the south) at Berlin.

Also - with respect to the section of second track in Hartford. It is classed as 10 mph but what really needs to be done to "upgrade" it?

As mentioned, it would be nice but the cost would be significant. One idea, if the money was available - extend Danbury line to what would be Danbury north - near the 84/7 intersection. Not sure what the condition of the double track is from Danbury station to the Danbury north site and what the cos...

Not completely sure but I don't think it is possible to purchase an Amtrak ticket between Bridgeport and NY Penn. At least, it used to not be possible. I would think that if a bar car or a food service car was economically feasible, (assume someone is willing to pay $3.8m for a rail car) they would ...

If a private company wanted to pay the $3.8m for a M8 rail car, I am sure Metro-North would accept the gift - as a bar car.
Just an idea - wrap it in a ad for a liquor company if that company spent the $3.8m for the car.

Since the cost, due to the sharp curve and all the environmental issues would be too high. A much cheaper idea is to run a connecting bus to all Harlem trains to and from GCT. That way, we can see if the demand warrants the expenditure - if and when money is available. I think we are still waiting f...

Is it possible to run a two car (one set) M8 on SLE? Did not know as Dutch mentioned, about how only one of the single cars can be run on any single train and wondered if M8's needed to be run with one or more pairs. Also = how many M8 does Metro North/CDOT have? Compare to how many combined M2,M4,M...

Not sure.
Just saying that trains will stop at those stations and seem to have lower speed limits around.

Summary - the 30/30/30 is not realistic and the $ cost for the time savings is not worth it.

Money is needed to get the existing system into a good state (S Norwalk bridge as an example).

Train speed limits are slower on those areas due to the stations and the grade crossings.

Traingeek - you are right. the 30/30/30 not likely. Its 10 mph up to 59th street. Perhaps 40 min to 59th street and another 5 to total 45, Stamford to GCT. Not for nothing but some trains arrive early if they don't have any problems (traffic from other lines, work crews, etc...). I think they recent...

This is a good thing. It would be much less expensive to just improve bus service from the existing station (if the funds exist).
CDOT should focus on immediate needs with the budget they have.
If Fed Funds exist, great (I thought that infrastructure was a priority of the Trump regime).
