Re: Twin State Railroad

I mean I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of the rail trail expansions if they don't plan on doing anything with the tracks anyway. As much as I love trains and the history of the area, money talks and if the rail trails can bring in money to businesses in the area then that'll be why it happens. If...

The Hobo could make a mid winter train work if they did something in addition to the train ride. Some tourist railroads have events on the train. Others take you to a destination where you can hang out for XX minutes before returning. How about taking the train to the endpoint (Jack O'Lantern golf c...

One confusing thing about that article says "build a 100-mile alignment". The rail line is there... no new alignment needed. However, you'd need a complete rebuild especially from Brunswick to Augusta. There are many crossings paved over and an overpass or two probably missing. North of Au...

The only way I can see this working is when/if passenger service is extended north of Danbury to Brookfield, New Milford, or as some have proposed, all the way to the Berkshires. Is someone going to get on a train at Danbury and ride out to Southeast when they could just drive there in probably less...

From what I have read/heard, there is no set time limit on when the feds will require states to convert to mile-based exits. Right now the states with sequential exits include NJ (turnpike only), CT, NY, VT, and NH. CT and NY have started converting a handful of highways but the bulk will take sever...

At this point, it'd be easier to come up the B&M main that Amtrak uses up to Rockingham Jct, then rehab the few miles from there to Portsmouth. Maybe Santa could bring in some more double track for the main, for that matter!

There isn't enough room off Depot Rd to handle everyday boarding and unboarding of passengers. There's no room for parking and no room for any type of a station. If I recall correctly, that tiny platform was put in place for the (never materialized) shuttle trains, to and from the Red Stone. The re...

It looks like paid parking may be coming to the streets/side roads of North Conway. https://www.conwaydailysun.com/news/local/conway-selectmen-move-paid-parking-forward/article_4875cf78-7635-11ed-a789-230a2716c87a.html?fbclid=IwAR3-0VCFiLv9TaWhfz8BNtWs1CsxZdauquYYZiV4WLfONXGBQu6gr1IAEr8 I imagine th...

When I went on a railfan excursion back in c 2010 or so on the Housatonic's Berkshire Line, we passed a string of stored double decked commuter cars (they may be METRA) somewhere between Lee and Great Barrington. Not sure if they are still there, or if this is what the OP was talking about.

Yes to electrifying the New Haven-Springfield line. Maybe to the Empire Corridor. I think for starters for the Empire corridor, Amtrak and NYSDOT should relay the removed-in-the-1950s/60s 3rd and 4th tracks from outside Schenectady to the Buffalo area. That should allow the freights and Amtrak to pl...

That's pretty cool, I wonder how the two were shipped to Thomaston (B&A to Pan Am or Amtrak to Metro-North)? Looks like they went the former... heard they were in Albany, then next thing they were in East Deerfield yard. Then assuming they came down the Conn River via a EDPL, then a PL-# to Wat...

Heard it was a bridge at Shore Line Jct that is the issue with the shoes. Not sure of the solution or timeline, if there is one yet.

I think its awesome they were able to relocate and reuse the Vergennes station. The problem experienced today in rail stations is that most were built in downtown areas which are often crowded and lack adequate space for parking, etc, hence why in so many locations, the old station isn't used, in fa...

I personally don't see an expansion of SLE to Westerly as necessary. However, there is potential space at Westerly for a layover facility and/or a third platform track.... https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3817438,-71.8293743,181m/data=!3m1!1e3 There is a pre-existing Amtrak MOW yard and potentially c...

100 and 101 were both former D&H cars... I believe the 100 was the one that used to be stainless, but the fluting was removed. Then 102 and 103 were added later (the sleeper and dome). But yes, back in the 1980s there were other cars more stainless. There were 4 MEC cars I believe, and according...
