That's ridiculous. Maybe they should encourage TOD and actually have anything around the stations, and bring the schedule back. If the schedule sucks, of course the ridership will. Problem is single-family homes and NIMBYs, but the parking lots are absurdly large and could easily fit a couple hundr...

They're running 11 trains eastbound compared to 18 pre-covid. Of those, two are at 5 and 6 in the morning, and are completely useless for all intents and purposes. If I recall correctly, there was only one ultra-early train pre-Covid. So as far as a normal rider is concerned, it's 9 trains versus 17...

I would guess any through trains from OSB or New London would still be the usual 4-car sets, but express from New Haven, with just the stops the former Stamford-extended trains did (if any), and then nonstop to 125th and GCT. I could see 6-car sets being used. Those trains would have decent ridersh...

I had understood the obstacle to be the end of a structural member of a curved bridge in East Haven, but don't know which bridge (or which end or which track). https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3155785,-72.877353,52a,35y,38.77h,45.07t/data=!3m1!1e3 I believe it's that one. The tracks are exceptionall...

Tell that to the geniuses who decided half hourly inbound service on all major lines from 8pm to 1 am was a great idea...Running those empty trains is a total waste.

The swing bridge in Middletown/Portland is not abandoned... there was a customer over in Portland that went out of business (or relocated elsewhere) when their building's roof collapsed in the snow/ice, IIRC, years ago. There is still a customer over there today, I believe its "Red Technologie...

Keolis? :-D

Alternatively...I wonder if it could be run by MNR crews.

The line passes through pretty dense areas. Could do stops at Cromwell, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, and South End. The problem is getting into Hartford. Either you build a new platform along the river, or you have to backtrack into Hartford Union.

Any thoughts as to what timetables will look like? An LIRR-style arrangement where it's roughly 60/40? Could MNR add a third train per hour out of New Haven and Stamford?

I don't go out that way too much, but in my experience there's never much traffic on 95 once you get past 395. It's that stretch through East Lyme that can be really brutal even without an accident. Yes Groton is a big town, but from what I can tell the proposed stations won't be near any of the maj...

Phase II never gets built and riders have to suffer with substandard service. If they were serious about Phase II, there would only be a temporary Middleborough station instead of abandoning the 25-year-old station that had transit-oriented development (including a couple of apartment complexes) po...

10 car consists used to be common on the New Haven, 8 at a minimum. 1549 is packed to the gills with 6 once again.

MNR has been running 6-car trains almost exclusively on the Harlem and lower Hudson lines, and for the most part it works fine. Maybe one or two of the peak expresses on the Harlem should be given an 8-car, but for the most part 6-car sets get it done. Meanwhile on the New Haven, they've taken to ru...

The changes are working wonderfully. On a rainy Saturday, 4/6 and 5/10 of the busiest trains in the system (MNR and LIRR) are Hudson Line.

Maybe they could even improve the frequencies, or add a Beacon express that leaves GCT around 3:40. Right now train #841 (3:48 out of GCT) is over 100% capacity and carrying 800 people. #839 (3:18 out of GCT) is at 61% capacity between Cortlandt and Peekskill. Same thing on the New Haven. #1542, 4:0...
