The eastbound IAIS freight leaves Joliet at the end of the morning rush hour, while the westbound freight leaves Blue Island just ahead on the afternoon rush, I believe. The CSX freights pass in the middle of the night. Up until about 2 years ago, I worked in Tinley Park and this was the pattern.

There were a pair of really nice looking PV's at last year's National Train Day in Chicago, so it's likely there will be some on display this year, although I have no actual facts to back up that statement.

Re: Ogilvie - Union Station Passenger Walkway?

The pedway is open from Randolph St. station west and it is relatively easy to use and access, and definitely worth using during inclement weather. Back in January I walked from the station to the Daley Center, went up to the street, and then crossed Randolph to the Thompson Center and it was much b...

Amtrak is indeed the owner of Chicago Union Station. Metra is a tennant and uses the station for its BNSF, Milwaukee District, SouthWest Service and Heritage Corridor trains. I can't imagine that BNSF would have any interest in the ownership of a passenger station. Many years ago, BN owned a part of...

Yeah, you wonder why they even bother to hang out here. It's my view that they work for the Heritage Foundation or the Cato Institute and want to mess with our notions that high speed rail is a good thing.

Thanks for checking Gilbert. I was also wondering what the Tadman was talking about. I guess I'm out of that demographic.

Maybe I can help on this. I covered the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District and Illinois Central commuter service, along with other transit services, for The Star newspapers starting in 1971 and continuing through 2006. At one point, the South Shore was interested in purchasing Highliner-li...
