How can these Powers That Be, past and present, be so myopic about the value of rail to Falmouth?
If you check Google Earth you can see how they reconfigured the ladder at the south (RR west) end. There has been some work done in the north end too but not as dramatic.
Of course they were recently awarded a grant to improve the line: CSX: A $499,000 grant will support the Everett Coke Works Rehabilitation Project, which MassDOT said “will aid the continued use of freight rail service to shippers in Everett and increase both the reliability and volume of freight ra...
The air will keep the reservoirs on all the cars up to pressure, so when they go to pick up the cars they don’t need to wait to pump up the air. I think if it’s within a certain time period of when they were set out it may also mean they don’t need to do a full brake test? In which case they’d just...
Well the boxcar is certainly not obsolete in Maine I guess. What's with the red and yellow hoses? Is that to supply air for the brakes? That is unusual isn't it? I know there has to be propane for the switch heaters but that's a different system that I don't see.
It mentions the "waterfront" in the article and you can see the red area is along the top edge of the photo on the webpage.

Watching some videos this morning of CSX trains operating over former Pan Am trackage in Maine, I was wondering what if any rules apply to un-signaled crossings? On several videos you can see trains crossing at decent speeds (25 maybe?) blowing their horns and crossing roads with only crossbucks and...
Here's a recent image from Mattawamkeag from Google Earth. It shows approximately 42 work train cars and they are pretty much taking up the entire track length. IM cars would be even longer of course.
Pretty ironic if Irving brings the stuff back to Brownville Junction to send east. There goes the two to three day advantage CSX promised.
The IM would need to use the east wye. I haven't heard anything about the clearance project except that the Clinton overpass is a bit challenging.
This comment is from a YouTube video from an apparently disgruntled former CSX employee: "They are just Pan Am but with better track conditions. They are already bullying a lot of customers trying to drive them away. They already managed to kill off the lumber reload at Enfield that Pan Am open...
Why is there a need to swap modules . just whip the toilets out , refresh everything else , job done. To give the Roomette passengers some replacement place, the plan also included removing 1 roomette and replacing it with 2 public toilets. Unfortunately, the location for that change was to be at t...
