What if Amtrak Used the Midland Division to a brand new Terminal in the Seaport District? That would Put the new station in a growing area closer to the new convention center and airport and directly connected to South Station by the Silver Line. I think that Back Bay is probably more important to ...

P.S. Adding a fourth track between Forest Hills and Boston will probably never happen. The only way to add capacity all the way to Boston would be via the second district ( Midland Division), but that would bypass Back Bay, which has become a very popular stop on all Amtrak trains. The Midland is a...

Is there anyone who can give a number as to what maximum grades are possible for HSR? I found this in the US Interstate Standards: "Maximum grade: Maximum grade is determined by a table, with up to 6% allowed in mountainous areas and hilly urban areas." So let's assume that Route 95 has u...

Is there anyone who can give a number as to what maximum grades are possible for HSR? Here's some info: The considerable momentum at high speeds also helps to climb these slopes very fast without greatly increasing their energy consumption. The Paris-Sud-Est LGV has grades of up to 3.5%. On the Ger...

I-95 is practically as curvy as the Shore Line I don't know if that's really the case. Checking out Google Earth it looks like a new line could enter the I-95 median just after crossing the Thames River east of New London very easily. There is no median to be used west of New London, so lets say th...

Just because there is room in Median of a Highway does not make it any cheaper, infact it makes for bigger cost. Highways have many roads and rivers crossing them and each and everyone would need a viaduct. There is no way using a "free" public highway median would be more expensive than ...

For re-routing the NEC, what about the freight system? If there are any freight customers on the relocated section, the original alignment would have to be sold to a freight railroad (not really a bad thing, would allow more capacity for both freight and passenger trains), or all the customers relo...

Actually, it is possible to serve the Autoport without having to raise clearances, the biggest obstacle. Wabash has made RoadRailer autocarriers before. This is one option most people are not aware of. Since NS is the RoadRailer king, it surely would be the ideal situation for a NS/PAS auto service ...

If Boston can't service a diner (which they can't), then there goes your chance for through LD trains. Well, the simplest idea is to split the Lake Shore Limited in Albany and send the front half to Boston (baggage-sleeper-coaches-lounge) and the back half to New York (diner-coaches-sleepers-baggag...

Regarding all of the Northeast Corridor crossings: I noted our train's speed through all of the crossings back when I did my recent GPS trip mentioned earlier. To my surprise, our Amfleet train never exceeded 79 MPH over any crossing! I know the FRA allows 110 - 125 mph through at-grade crossings an...

I don't believe LD trains to the South, whatever city that is, from Boston is possible. Does Boston have sufficient turn around facilities? Look at what trains leave Boston that travel beyond D.C. already. Yes, there are a few.... Train 95 leaves Boston at 0615 and arrives in Newport News at 1850 o...

RE: While I like the through-cars from Boston and the Inland Route angles, I have to question: if the Boston section (448) turns down the NEC to connect to whichever Silver 48 becomes, what then turns into 449 WB the next day? I just recently rode Amtrak from NYP to Boston and observed the right of way just with this idea in mind. Although there is the NIMBY problem here, it certainly would also be on any new high speed route, maybe even more so since the residents would have been there first and not the other way around....
