Re: CSX-Oak Point/Fremont

One could say closest they get to blocks with inbound cars are the waste management and C&D cars, which are all generally (but not always) together. NY&A still has to sort them to the right train to the right destination though.

Pretty sure the cars at bliss will go to wheelspur once those flats on the creekside track are relocated. They appear to be RR construction flats, not Frontier. They were also repaving wheelspur recently, probably to better accommodate the new freight customer back there. I can't imagine them trying...

Does anyone happen to know the deal with the dozen or so rail cars in first avenue yard? They appear to be ex Greshow tall scrap haulers and ex LIRR gondolas, but all the reporting marking were painted out. In fact, they were all given a coat of brown paint, at least on the side facing the street. I...

I looked on an old Sanborn map. The buildings south of the curving track where the silos are, which are now Allied Extruders as you pointed out, used to be Newark Tube Company. I"m pretty sure all the silos belong to Allied - if you zoom in you can see a pipe going from the northern bank of si...

Went by today, nothing's moved. Unless there's a break back in the yard, all the rail is still in, down Monroe street. There was a covered hopper on the interchange track. I'm assuming it's been there awhile?

On the queens blvd subway, at the moment, no. But they're installing new signals so maybe in 10 years assuming it takes as long to get CBTC running as it did for the 7 line. They *could* divert one of the local lines through. Only three stops would lose a little local service. They could also bring ...

Doesn't make sense to connect to the LIRR. Let's face it the LIRR alignment is so that Manhattanites and a very few Queens patrons don't have to change at Jamaica for trains to JFK. Think of it. Other than Port Washington trains, almost every LIRR train east or west stops at Jamaica station. Travel...

I think some of the overbuilding was added to jack up the price tag and make the idea sound less realistic. Lose this whole tail track tunnel thing (in a swamp no less? dumb idea), lose the atlantic ave connection temporarily (it wouldn't cost much to reopen it though - the tunnel portals are still ...

It'll happen. It'll happen with a lot of pushing, and a lot of looking hard into the price tag (which sounds around double what it should be). The demographics of Queens and the city on a whole is changing. People want this. It'll take a good 10-20 years, but it'll happen. There's nothing in the stu...

Not sure what train they're on but I've seen them pass through LIC heading towards Penn nearly every day this week. Looked like a longer 8-12 car train.

With the M9s coming in, is there a plan for disposing of the M3s? Will they slowly be shipped off for scrap w/frontier?

Yikes. Definitely doesn't sound good. I wonder if there are any local elected official who might be able to make a connection.

Found this recent photo - looks like a tagger got in there and did some recent scribbling.

I wonder if finding and calling up the new property owner about it might not be prudent. The companies name is somewhere in the various news articles, etc. If it's all truly 'abandoned', you might be doing them a favor clearing what to them is junk.

Sounds like effect 10/5/2019, yes. https://www.stb.gov/decisions/readingroom.nsf/UNID/605D07D44E3ABCB98525846C00498591/$file/47166+.pdf There's no mention here of the equipment.
