Re: Kew Gardens and Forest Hills 4 to 6 car platforms

The subway system is a mess and they have been claiming to fix it for years now. But that isn’t the reason for growth at these stations. The subway system has way more destinations inside NYC. The LIRR and NYC Subway serve different purposes. You can’t go to Long Island by subway, ie Nassau and Suff...

Is there an elevator at Forest Hills? No. Both FH platforms have a series of ramps constructed for handicapped access...MACTRAXX An elevator would ruin the historical character of the structure. Since it has ramps already, no need to build an elevator. They rebuilt the handicap ramps which were in ...

Forest Hills has lots of growth lately in ridership as does Kew Gardens. Thankfully the project has apparently started already. And the Kew Gardens bridge repair will be taken care of and started in the coming months. Forest Hills and Kew Gardens was growing while it was neglected compared to other ...

Forest Hills and Kew Gardens always had short platforms. I don’t see why a full 12 car platform couldn’t be built, perhaps there is something that prevents this. I believe other platforms may have been lengthened as part of double track or station renovations but i am not sure. Apparently due to Eas...

MattAmity90 , good post re: the speed of this project re: the improved track laying technology, and the historical significance of the project itself. Kew Gardens and Forest Hills 4 to 6 car platforms

Looks like the LIRR will add larger platforms for two more trainsets to platform at each station. Really good news for everyone who uses these stations. I presume fixing the cracked concrete of the existing platform will be included in the project. http://www.mta.info/news/2018/07/27/lirr-lengthen-p...

Looks like Amtrak has more work to do after completing Track 19, and Mr. Eng is following the Washington playbook -- announcing bad news on Sunday night when nobody is paying attention #Derailgate Any LIRR commuter using digital tools was alerted to the LIRR issues. Wasn’t like LiRR covered up anyt...

Another derailment just now, LIRR west end of Penn Station. Happened in West Side Yard. I don’t believe Amtrak trains are affected. Right as they were about to restore service from Track 19, this incident happened. Fortunately no fatalities or passenger injuries. Will mess up LIRR commutes till the...

A passenger train which had no passengers on it derailed. Train was not in passenger service at the time. Looks like it was an M7 with two cars derailed. Doesn’t look too bad from the photos and cars can probably be repaired and put back in service. They say four switches were damaged. Delays expect...

Was looking through the new LIRR schedules. Apparently there is 6 weeks of Harold interlocking work that will be going on till next LIRR schedules come out. Signals were completed already. Which project is being done that is disrupting Harold interlocking for 6 weeks till September? I was under impr...

Harold handles LIRR and Amtrak trains and the MTA just completed the computerization and the move to automated signals. They definitely just completed this project as testing on the signals occured over a long period as well as construction. The previous project consolidated the signals into one fac...

Phil Eng seems to be aware of refurbishing some M3 as M9 come online as reported. M3 will have even more life left in them. Added service capacity is a good thing. Eventually they can order more M9 options or a new model train to fully phase out the M3 altogether at some point in time. I see the iss...

What I meant is that Penn Station has seen full track upgrades and Harold interlocking signals are now computerized as well as the completion of the West End Concourse project. This included electrical and signal work. There is more to do, but previously trains were sliding off the rails and deraili...

Real estate prices in Orlando are not cheap anymore in nice areas. Was looking at land prices online. Expanding Sunrail probably will factor into higher pricing as well. It seems odd that Sunrail doesn’t have any weekend or holiday service even in the new enhanced schedules. That is contrary to othe...
