yes thats the portal....the fill goes back about 50 to 75 yrds or less. it goes right under the freight hs In order to keep the radius of the curve as large as possible, the tunnel swings out to the south of the eastern end of the freight house. It's directly underneath the manhole cover. Then it s...

Anybody know if MP 333 is still where it belongs west of Hornell? Because there is a milepost "JC 333" south of Montour Falls: https://www.facebook.com/groups/abandon ... 744841992/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Russ - River? You mean Catherine Creek? It hasn't looked like a river since Hurricane Agnes in '72. And where were you looking at the Glen Route southeast of it? No idea about the mile post. Maybe some railfan from Hornell moved to Montour and donated it to the trail people. Yes, Catherine Creek. D...

If Randall O'Toole "loves passenger trains," how come he's opposed every passenger train effort -- from transit to LD -- ever presented in the past 30 years or so? Strange sort of love. He might respond that he likes passenger trains, but that he doesn't think that governments should be i...

2013? One would think that after 6 years, the need for secrecy would be long past. Depends on who might care. Possession is 9/10ths of the law, but that sticky 1/10th could mean trouble. The caboose went to someone who does fine wood-work and loves trains. I haven't been back there since, but I hav...

I have moved down to Elmira, so it's easy for me to go exploring here now. Here is what I know about the EC&W (the trolley): I know of no trace between Big Flats and Corning, but there is a bridge at the intersection of Main Street and NY-352 in Big Flats. My understanding is that the power line...

Not all the parts near Canton and Powell were repurposed as highways. There are long portions of railbed in that area, including bridge abutments, which are still in place.

The B&H served Lane Pipe in Bath during the '50s- I have a picture of #11 hauling a large load of culvert pipe on one of her last runs. (By the way the shop is still there but the spur was removed during the early '80s). The B&H also used to have a spur that diverted from the line near the ...

My railfan girlfriend (yes, I'm bragging) Ewa and I went for a Sunday drive yesterday (it was Sunday, after all) southeast out of Elmira along NY 427, which runs along the Erie Southern Tier. We saw trolley abutments at Seeley Creek, and at Bentley Creek.
