Half a car is still around 60-70 people, not a small number. And there may be a lot of newcomers in the quiet car that could have been formerly sitting in the middle half on the train...oh well, who cares. On another note, I agree with MetraRI that some of the off peak trains could really use a quie...

"Perhaps people who want to ensure the quiet would get there earlier to get the head quiet car (would engine noise be a problem?)." I'm curious as to the other end of the train; if I understand this right, in the morning the head end quiet car would be the cab car. No talking or cell phone...

While looking over some of the holiday schedules for this year I found a rather interesting typo.....well I'd normally say 100% that this is a typo but after the 185 on UP-W deal a few weeks ago now I'm going to say 99.9% that this is a typo ;-) Why run just engines from the MILW district on the UP ...

I heard the 113 had an ATS shoe on it, do either of the other two visitors have ATS shoes?

Woah....first the 113 and now this, crazy stuff going on. As long as whatever is sent to the UP has a 1 or 2 in the first digit and not a 4, its nice to get places on time ;-)

Rebuilt 8420 was on UP-NW line train 641 this evening - K3 and all. I also noticed that its new car numbers are a much rounder font than the original block numbers.

This makes me think of another question. What did they do at CUS (both on the MILW and BN side) when E and F units with separate HEP power plants were used? Did they keep trains on shore power until a few minutes before departure, then start the HEP power plants? I'd be curious to find out, as those...

I've been taking trains out of Ogilvie for years and never really noticed an exhast problem. The air always seemed much much cleaner there in the rush hour than the north end of CUS. I took Amtrak down state a few weeks ago and while boarding in CUS the engine was in standby HEP mode until about 2-3...

1. There is a difference in fuel tank size.

2. Around 1992-1993. The F40PH-2M's however, were delivered with ditch lights.

3. Yes they do, the A/C units were put on around ten years ago.

4. I'm not sure on the exact start time but I remember seeing RTA painted units into 1994 or even 95.

They've been running Operation Lifesaver trips out of there for the past several days using that equipment.
