Im not sure where else to put this so at least this thread is rock related. There was what looked like a private car charter pulled by a freight loco inbound on the rock at englewood around 1pm today. I only got a quick look at it.
I think I saw 216 parked by Itself at western avenue yard facing north this evening.
I can picture it now: its late in the evening and the museum is all dark and very quiet....then out of the silence..."welcome aboard the Cta, there is no soliciting onboard trains and busses" :-) Any chance that even one of the commemorative South Side Rapid Transit 2000s can be saved as a...
Sounds like someone pressed the engine shutdown (emergency fuel cutoff) switch on the back wall of the cab. They may have just leaned back and pressed it with their shoulders or head momentarily by accident if the cab was crowded and they were standing along the back wall.
Is the 401 still out of service?
Illinifan thanks for the description and info on the RTA seats, that solved it.
When I used to take Metra downtown regularly around 2003-2005, there were quite a few of those cars with the green seats with the metal bar on top. I used to hate them; for a taller person they were shorter seatbacks to begin with, then to rest your head on the seatback? Nothing like just relaxing a...

There was mention of this in one of the board meetings a few months ago, the main reason for doing this is fuel and noise reduction. The iro...
IRM is looking to get a pair this time around and has been doing some fundraising to start building up enough funds for when the time comes. The last Rail and Wire issue that went out had a small article about it too.
A few years ago there was some discussion on this forum about what it would take to operate IRM’s three CNW bilevels off museum property and what their general condition was. Much has happened with the set since then. Last year all three cars were taken into IRM’s diesel shop for some much needed wo...
Not quite a Metra heritage unit but it struck me as something that would look at home (or confusing to passengers! ) on the SWS :-D . The new NS veterans unit: From the cab forward it looks like a Metra loco even with the flag down by the frame and everything. I'm not sure how to make a small link o...
Just a quick note: The user "Victor" mentioned on here a while back that shop forces were following EMD maintenance instructions for long term storage with the F40C's. For those of you who haven't seen those instructions, that process is extremely detailed and thorough - the purpose of tho...
210 is now on the BN
LOL thanks, I'll stop by your cab.
