Re: MBTA's Max Speed?

all respect Mr CRail, but the HSP's MAS is 103 mph I appreciate the respect, but your very own timetable disagrees with you. HSP-46 speeds Lite, Multiple Lite, and With train are 50, 50, and 90 respectively. I have deduced that this is why ACSES displays 90 in the cab on the corridor when MAS for M...

18 units were replaced by 40, I'll say that order freed up units for overhaul for sure!

It is 100% equipment design. EMD engines are rated for 100mph, and if they were pulling a train of Amfleets they'd be allowed to go that fast. HSPs are rated for 90, and all MBTA coaches regardless of type are rated for 80mph. The coaches are limited due to FRA regulations pertaining to weight and b...

Bike trails are land banking. The MBTA and Commonwealth of MA own the ROW the trail sits on, if the demand and New Hampshire funding were such that service were to resume, trail advocacy would hold the weight of helium.

The way to Portsmouth is via the Eastern Rte. The Newburyport extension was built with provisions for it. The biggest hurdle at this point is repairing or replacing the swinging bridge over the Merrimack. Besides that and a few overpass spans that were taken out for the bike trail the only thing pre...

No. Only double deckers have them, the 900 kawasakis don't work with the traction interlock, and the Rotems' doors are electric instead of air. They took a proven method and made it not work.

None of the PCCs are compatible with the remaining PCCs. The in house restoration by the Boston Carmen's Union was not cosmetic, the car was restored to service. The caveat to their free labor was in fact that it could no longer be used for revenue service. That's not to say it can't run special tri...

The 5 is far from gone but is in need of restoration. AFAIK both cars were last run in 1997.

Sure, but you have to take care of your equipment if you're going to run it into the ground. Not paying any mind to the exterior appearance of the Orange Line fleet was just fine until a rusted-out sill fell off the train and wedged itself between the train and the third rail. You have to take care...

The land needed to connect the tracks is MBTA property.

When Tower A draw bridges are replaced, there will be 6 tracks crossing the Charles. That is when tracks 11 and 12 are expected to be tied in. The Spaulding Rehab building, which is very much active as administrative offices for MGH, is not in the way of the planned expansion.

30 years for subway cars is NOT a reasonable life expectancy. 40-50 is much more reasonable with the understanding that they might need to last longer. The Orange Line Hawkers went 43 years with not so much as a paint job and those bodies were very sub-par in endurance. The No. 1 Red Line cars could...

As I understand it the track forces that worked on double tracking the Franklin line up to this point were diverted to Southcoast Rail and that is why Franklin progress has halted. Once South Coast is open I expect progress will resume on the Franklin line.
