What with Amtrak wanting to add service in New England, and upgraded track though Northern Maine, it won't be long before we see the return of The Gull.
As we know, New Hampshire commuter rail has been an on-again, off-again proposition for many years. I don't see Amtrak getting involved in this at all.
Boston to Concord. Commuter rail distance, easily. It seems that a lot of the new service was already studied or proposed, and the map piggybacks on that.
You're right. Don't know what I was thinking. For those of us who are senior citizens, though, the BBY-BON Orange Line ride is not too attractive. I've did it once. The next time, I took a cab from South Station. I like the shuttle idea.
Does anyone think that CSX will keep this branch?
Ohio's governor is taking a "wait/see" position on the routes in Ohio. His big concern: details are sketchy, and he won't give his opinion until the details are spelled out, particularly in relation to how much it will eventually cost the state. Fair enough, IMO.
That's a yard? Wow!
It could be that coach passengers sleep through their stop often enough that complaints are received that no announcement was made. Sleeping cars are a different story; back in the day the porter would, if necessary, awaken individual passengers in sufficient time. Last I knew, conductors put a thr...
Concord and Rockland would seem to be exceptions to that.
I'd put host railroad opposition right up there with lack of equipment issues as obstacles to starting new services. Didn't I read that CSX wanted $2 billion-with a b--to let Amtrak run two roundtrips to Mobile from New Orleans?
I just do not see going to Rockland all year, and there's no indication that I know of that says it will be a summer seasonal service, as was the recent plan. Did I miss something? [There's a reason why lots of motels close up there from November to the end of May.]
As crazy as it may seem, advanced baggage delivery has been a growing line-of-business since 9/11. Several companies have gotten into this space, including some who also do baggage delivery for airlines when bags are delayed. Personally, I like the idea of being able to get to my hotel room and hav...
Just wait until service returns to Rockland, LOL.
I'm curious to know why the extension to Rockland vs. Lewiston. Rockland is more of a summer draw. Is the plan even for year-round service, I wonder?
