James Whitcomb Riley schedule, clone this timing, and you might have a winner.

Chicago (Central Station) 4:30 p.m.
Woodlawn, 63rd Street 4:40 p.m.
Kankakee 5:35 p.m.
Lafayette 6:52 p.m.
Indianapolis 8:00 p.m.
Cincinnati (Union Terminal) 11:00 p.m.

Morning Riley left Cin at 7:30a Ar CHI 1:50 pm

Indianapolis is just a corn field with electricity!!! I know, I used to live there, and so did my parents.

You'd have to have total average time from IND to CHI at or over 65mph to even start to be competitive.

I don't really care either way, but seems most like to rock side to side "parallel" vs head to toe "perpendicular" I suppose parallel would be safer in a sudden stop, less likely to be tossed off the bunk.

No way a "Hoosier State" or any other IND -CHI train will ever make sense unless they find or improve a route that is time competitive. The old Riley route would do, if they could ever rebuild it.

Thanks!! It would be fantastic if future operation/s could go as least as far as Rocky Ridge, and reinstitute the wye there.

How far beyond Saltilo, do tracks exist? Ever any chance to operate as far as Rocky Ridge? or beyond Aughwick, Pa to Mt. Union?? The rails are generally in place beyond Woodvale nearly to old Alvan. The New nonprofit owner only owns the track as far as the Woodvale highway crossing. Really, tracks ...

I'd support your idea wholeheartedly!! Price the slumbercoach on the routes as ratio of slumber havinng 40 berths vs the number of berths ratio on superliner total per car berths Seems reasonable. In the spirit of Mr. Maitland’s original post, let’s define the rules. -I’m assuming that we won’t be ...

CarterB: I’d like to see that experiment. Build ten, and deploy four Slumbercoaches each for the Crescent NYP-ATL and the Lake Shore Limited NYP-CHI. To make it a fair experiment, deploy a pair of Superliner parlor cars (1+1 staggered seating) on the Capitol Limited , offering similar amenities and...

As I have been advocating for years, bring back the slumbercoaches!!! The single and double slumbers were a perfect configuration and had good layouts for the cost. The beds were quite adequate and comfortable, and they were roomy enough for all but those who had HUGE suitcases or luggage. I rode th...
