Re: SELECTED ON-TIME PERFORMANCE 2/29/20 THROUGH 3/29/20

It would be interesting to know what the former heads of Amtrak who were good operating people would think about the current performance level. If they were "good operating" people, they probably wouldn't be that offended knowing: Regulations have changed. Traffic patterns have changed. T...

I think it's more of a "you" being most people here other than me. Commuter rail has been 50/50 for 50 years or more. Sure, some, maybe even many, people complain about it. But you know what they complain about more? Uncomfortable seats with no heat or air conditioning and a late train. A...

I'm not versed on the different rail owners or divisions? What towns did the auto train go through when the detour was in place? Day 10 of house arrest, want to track it using Google earth. It followed much of the inland route of the previous Silver Star to Tampa. After Jacksonville, it went down t...

Re: Why isn’t Amtrak advertising sleeping cars

Why isn’t Amtrak advertising its sleeping cars more these days? Being in an enclosed room is surely a good thing. This time, when I told co-workers that I am taking a Amtrak, to be in a private room, they thought that it’s a good idea. Last time I took Amtrak, before the pandemic, they thought that...

They should be able to "suspend" without any difficulty should they choose to. Nothing could be further than the truth. Part of the federal stimulus funding required Amtrak to remain open so the only way to shut down the National network is for Congress to shut it down. According to CFR 4...

Allow me to interject with something that I've brought up before. There is a reason that you see freight operators sliding out of passenger service contracts. I'm not sure if you realize it (even though I've brought it up before)but freight crews can just "operate" passenger trains unless ...

I think the answer is actually battery powered locomotives. ...<snip> it's probably a no-brainer for operations through New York. If you're talking about the BNSF prototype, it hasn't undergone long-distance testing. Remember, the same locomotive you're thinking about operating through New York is ...

I certainly agree, Mr. Moore; consider my comments as "premature" and based upon early reports that it was "no big thing". While not Crescent City, as that involved injuries and even fatalities, this incident "is a big thing". Let the Amtrak/CSX "finger pointing&q...

I'm hopeful the next round of power has a redundant HEP system. Even the current Acela set is useless if both power cars fail. That being said, some railroads probably still charge by the axle. A six-axle power unit that is heavy enough with all the Tier 4 stuff may be an issue, particularly with we...

There are federal regulations, state regulations, and city regulations. You can make regulations that are more restrictive than federal code. In general, you can't make them less restrictive.

62506 - Rivianna River, and 62508 - Rocky River, are reported at another site to be delivered next week. The Reporter is "deemed reliable". That will make six cars on the property. When accepted (that of course will take a month), time for a revenue line? It would be nice. I'm still not 1...
