I never go to the LIRR forum :)

But I have seen this video, however. It circulated around the RR industry a few weeks ago. Crazy. The tank was filled with Ethyl Oxide (TIH) and the town was evacuated. The tank was found to have not leaked, thankfully.

Re: Your laugh for the day - Amtrak service to Geneva?!?

Back to the original topic... There is simply no way that Amtrak could justify adding service to Geneva... what's so hard to understand about that? -otto- And what sane person would want to take any Amtrak train across NYS that added at least an hour on the schedule due to the Geneva stop? The serv...

There is always going to be money going into research projects. Why not passenger trains? Whether it happens or not, its really out of your hands. The research has been going on longer than you may realize and this is now in the "can we get public support" phase. So lets show some support ...

All a person needs is the proper receive and transmit frequency as well as the PL if that is applicable and they are good to go. Another misstruth. ALL two way radios users MUST be licensed by the FCC to make ANY radio transmissions. The only exceptions may be some FRS low wattage (less than 1/2 wa...

RS Pro-97. Probably overkill for the RR, but I can store all the AAR freqs, and more (lots more). Best part is the computer interface for fast programming. And the text. I will never own another scanner without a text display. EDIT: Also wanted to mention that I swapped the stock antenna for the ant...

At any rate, here's an aerial view showing a long cut of old "Twin 45" TOFC's already being stored on this line. http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=r3cwb38kbxn2&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&sce...

Haha nice. Well, yes, that would be considered tourist. On the freight side, one of the younger guys comes to mind who wears bibs regularly, although not always striped. But he is not a railfan in any respect, and everyone knows it. Nobody cares, really. Personally, I say if somebody wants to wear ...

Nah, Bing is your best bet. I remember going through that area last summer. I was on what I believe was Havens Corners Rd. I saw the (RXR) sign, and I was looking for the tracks. I never saw the tracks. Now I know why. LOL. One of my contacts informed me that the major reason that Benton is getting ...

One of the guys here, who is also a volunteer on the Adirondack, wears overalls and the hat on our "more historic" passenger trips. The overalls have been weathered over the years. Some of the guys make comments about his dress, but never in front of him. Personally, I think he pulls off t...

That article was very poorly written. There was also an article in the FL Times, which seemed to be better researched. Still, the debate is so idiotic. Its a railroad and federal affair, the town has no business here. They should not have gone over the tracks in the first place without at least chec...

I caught this good looking (clean/matching!) pair in Geneva last night.

FYI they are SD40-2's.
