I vaguely remember reading something about a clearance issue with GLX and freight traffic -- something to the effect of no more plate F? Am I imagining things, or is there (some) truth to this?

I will take the experience and strategy moving forward of the railroad industry's management along with fact-based understanding of railroad markets and finances as an argument "of being right" over an argument that there's a rabbit to be pulled out of the hat, if only. Of course the vast...

Isn't PSR just implementing operations management batch-processing techniques long ago developed in other manufacturing processes? Is PSR revolutionary, or is it an indictment of sloppy prior management practices? My concern isn't with PSR...it's the higher rail tariffs applied alongside it potenti...

As you wrote, talk is cheap, so if you want to understand that railroads will not simply pursue market share or revenue gains that takes capacity reducing reliability and can't justify capital investment, just look at recent history and their behavior moving forward. Review this thread and you will...

They're growing revenue and/or market share where it makes sense and larger economic issues from which they derive demand are favorable. In this past quarter they grew revenue &/or market share in industrial chemicals, feed grain & ingredients, sweeteners and oils, ethanol, trucks and SUVs ...

I was disappointed to see the B express to Brighton Beach doesn't run on the weekends. It surprises me that there is no express service to the Coney Island area on the weekends. I was looking at the map and the B only runs on weekends and D's express tracks are apparently unused. It looks like both...

Electric trains also eliminate diesel emissions, a favorite target of property owners opposing the expansion of rail service. Which is to say, I would be somewhat surprised if adjacent property owners are unified in opposition.

M&E only has their Whippany line now, which last I knew only had a few customers consisting of Anderol (formerly Royal Lubricants) in East Hanover, B&G Foods at the end of the line in Roseland, and I think they still trans load biodiesel at their small yard in Cedar Knolls. I believe these ...

The long term vision that has been discussed to turning this into an Orange Line extension to free up commuter rail capacity on the SW Corridor. Would be great if they finally followed through on these discussions if for no other reason than that crossing move north of Forest Hills really isn't goo...

How much traffic is M&E even doing anymore? I'd be surprised if, even if they did have CSX interchange loads, they were running down more than a few times a month. Any regularity to FRVT ops? Would like to catch them at some point. I assume it's a M-F railroad?

Thanks!

It's equally amazing that we let people with those sort of exclusionary opinions dictate our transportation/land use policies... Realistically speaking, though, something to preserve the corridor as a corridor (rather than a slowly evolving series of reclamations) should be done. A rail trail would ...

Regardless of where their editorial standing lays, the News, Newsday, and the Post are all locally circulated papers, while that of The Journal and Times is worldwide in scope. "It figures" that those three papers (one of which is based "on the Island") are opposed to Gateway, f...
