Re: What If The PC Merger Had Been Called Off?

Now looking at this article, I wonder what would have happened if the Stegers Act (the act helping the railroads to sell lines) was in place around 1967 (as part of the Penn Central merger). I mean, when you look at a railroad map of 1965 and today, Connecticut has about 60% of the New Haven lines. ...

Because this subject is of interest to me I thought that I would finally register on RR.net so that I could offer my input on this. I worked for Penn Central as a brakeman on the Naugatuck roster in 1971-72. Although it was a long time ago and I only worked for the RR. for about a year here is what...

Is there any business on the Maybrook line between Derby and Danbury. Also, the old HRRC line to Bottsford, what business was there? Trying to model that old branch - calling it the Bottsford Branch...

I was in Island Pond and also Norton Vermont and noticed the track that ran to the Canadian border. What RR is using that track and how to trains cross the border with customs? Was also in Newport and noticed what seems like OOS track there by a shopping center. What RR was that? I believe Newport ...

Only 4 cars that whole day? One day in 2002, I remember a train going south with 78 cars, including 5 flat cars with steel beams. I guess CSO don't use the East Hartford yard anymore.

How long will Island Road be closed? Double tracking it?

I am glad the trip worked out good for you and probably everybody else as well. It was a good opportunity to ride an interesting and historic piece of railroad. I wish I could have been with you, I would have pointed out what was what in Torrington back when the line handled a lot of freight seven ...

The New Haven - Boston route is interesting, at Hartford it turns east, so would East Hartford get a stop? In Vernon it turns northeast to Worcester, so it looks like it misses Storrs/Mansfield/UConn. Also, Hartford to Hanover? Nothing west for Hartford? Northampton has more rail in that proposal, t...

Was there one on the north end of the line in Hartford? I'm sure that the ancestral Hartford & Connecticut Valley RR would have had one since they had to turn their locomotives, but after everything consolidated into the New Haven in ther 20th century the NH's engine terminal including a turnta...

I think the Griffin's branch of the CNEZ should be stated. Pretty much the duration of my childhood in central CT was spent watching the state tie itself into knots debating the Hartford-Bradley "Griffin Line" (dropping the "s") light rail line that was going to go on the Griffi...

Now the second, Kimberly Clark, remains active, but inbound paper is traffic better handled on rails than on decrepit US7. KC. still receives inbound loads of (pulp?) in boxcars from HRRC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udS512t3ziA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The first...
