Is the rail that is arriving from the CP's single tacking of the Winchester Subdivision west of Montréal? What size rail is CP installing? Are there any improvements to the Searsport-NMJ line underway also?

Pan Am is going to select an offer that they know will be able to get approved to purchase the railroad considering how long it takes get through the STB. The approval period could take up to twelve months from offer to operating the system.

One can look at this sale in two different ways: Do they sell the whole railroad in one transaction or piece meal. The one transaction is easiest, whole network is sold and done. No need to worry about the northern end of the Mountain Division in Vermont for example. Then there are the logistics rel...

Is Pan Am working on re-opening the track to handle freight movements?

With CP's cut-over of the CMQ complete, what are the radio channels used on both the Maine and Quebec portions of the system?

Has CP completed any significant repairs to the CM&Q in Quebec as of yet? Is the Canadian portion of the network run from Calgary now? It is probably assumed the Maine and Vermont portions will be run from the Soo Line in Minneapolis.

CP takes control of the CM&Q next week. What plans does CP have for track work on the line this summer? Any sign of materials or track equipment as of yet? Will a new intermodal train to be added in the short term? How will Searsport work into the system?

I was curious why CP paid such a high price for the CMQ ? Fortress invested $55 Million into the CM&Q's track structure and grew the business so railway is worth much more than the MM&A was. Discovered CN wants to turn Halifax into the Prince Rupert of the east coast and also build another ...

Much of the rail east of Old Town is indeed old and light. 85# rail with stamp dates from then end of WWI are common. Crossings rebuilt by DoT have either 100# or 112-115# with considerably newer milling dates. Tie wise, the line is in pretty good shape, half the ties half been replaced in 2 tie jo...

It does not appear from any formal documentation that either Pan Am or the VTR is looking for any concessions as part of the merger yet.

As for DET-CHI, the three options I see for CP-controlled track are -IORY to CFER, but the interchange with IORY is blocked by CN at Flat Rock and would have to be regulated out to CP in a fair way somehow. -buying out the Watco company operating the Michigan Central, then buying the NS rights to M...

Further it will be interesting to see what conditions iare placed on the merger by the STB. Remember that none of Pan Am's connections are changing as part of this merger, so in the eyes of the STB, the line to Keag is still operational providing for a direct connection to the NBSR.

How will the interlocking at Royal Jct. be configured when all is said and done? Looks like there is a new cross over just east of Greely Road that would allow moves from the new track on to the Freight Main Line (Back Road). Is there an effort to extend the new track to the east of the switch to th...

None of Pan Am's interchanges are changing as a result of CP's purchase of the CM&Q. They will still connect with the CM&Q at Northern Maine Jct. and the NBSR via EMRY at Mattawamkeag. Currently, Pan Am is interchanging its NBSR bound cars to the CM&Q and they in turn interchange those c...
