Check your ticket....but the Canadian leaves Vancouver at 8:30pm (2030)......and I've never been asked to leave the dome at night....even long after the bar closes. The only 'annoyance' with the dome is that they sometimes don't turn the lights off in the Economy Class one. "Shennanigans"...

1. Yes. You only pay for alcohol aside from the complimentary sparkling wine pours for departure at Vancouver and Jasper, and the beer/wine tastings that occur in the Skylines. 2. Absolutely fantastic. Better than Amtrak in my experience. You'll have Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on your Vancouver-Ed...

IIRC, you get what, 25% off the best available sleeper fare in exchange for a credit on the passes?

So Trudeau thinks he can just snap his fingers and force a private company to conjure up $$$ to repair a line whose only customers are VIA Rail, and town supplies: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/trudeau-pallister-meeting-1.4227610" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Mean...

In a way I am somewhat surprised that VIA is providing bus service to those who miss the same-day connections. Well I'm sure the optics of dumping 17-year-old girls in downtown Toronto in the middle of the night when The Canadian arrives at 9pm, instead of taking them to Brockville, would be way to...

Some of the kids coming off of chronically late The Canadian trains missing connections for Corridor trains east of Toronto have been reporting, on Facebook, that VIA's been chartering buses to take them to their respective final destination stations in the middle of the night, even all the way up t...

Makes sense. I'm curious if Churchill has a contractor capable of such work or if TMC folks will have to fly in. Churchill is a small town and who knows what kind of skilled diesel mechanics are available. Probably would need an electrician to deal with the batteries. The rest is trivial, opening v...

Is there any such thing as a barge capable of bringing the stranded equipment to active rail up the Nelson River, if such is even navigable? Alternately, how feasible would it be to ship this equipment to Moosonee? (And how badly does VIA need the equipment, versus draining the engine blocks & ...

At the very least, they'd have a set sitting around as spares to bring back the Gaspe service, would they not? I wonder if anyone outside of VIA really has a good handle on just how much equipment they have that's fully operable, how much is programmed to be out of service for depot maintenance, how...

Trains magazine reports a trainset of Via equipment is "trapped" at Churchill, unable to return to Winnipeg. Ouch. What would that be, a pair of F40PH-3D's, a coach or two, a sleeper and a diner? If they're still running up to Gillam, they would need to generate another set. At a time, of...

Some encouraging words from the President of VIA during the 2017 Annual Public Meeting's Question and Answer session:

I was on a VIA train in Canada earlier this year where a female Service Manager struck a male passenger from Israel and yelled anti-Semitic slurs after he recorded her lipping him off on his cell phone. Video, of course, didn't go onto YouTube, but the Service Manager tried to have him thrown off th...

Maybe someday they can do up a Prestige Skyline car or something like that... The rear "coffee shop" area, which is basically just tables and chairs, is kind of bland and useless. Seating like as in that bullet lounge depiction, would be nice. Especially since they don't want passengers (e...

4000 passes actually sold. Sounds like nearly all of the buyers are going to try to pile onto "The Canadian" in Economy.

LMFAO.

$150 July System-Wide Youth Pass

So VIA is offering a $150 system-wide pass for the month of July for people in the 12-25 age group (or older if you have a ISIC student card!). Apparently they've sold a bunch of them. So many that their system has crashed. A few questions I have to ponder: 1) Usually they only put 2 coaches into ea...
