Re: EMD Export Locomotives

Does anyone know where the bell is mounted on G12's and other early export locomotives? Obviously horn and bell placement on EMD export locomotives can vary by railroad, as is the case with domestic EMD locomotives. However, the bell seems to be hidden somewhere on every early export model I have se...

EMD placed a six-page advertisement in the trade journal “Diesel Railway Traction” for 1958 November First, I have to say this is a great thread, I am very interested in EMD export locomotives. I also have to say, I find it interesting that the 6 page ad from 1958 shows the GL8 available at that ti...

NDC Railroad operates on the remnant of the Northampton & Bath Railroad and serves the Northampton Development Center in the old Universal Atlas Cement plant.

Also, don't forget about Victor Balata Belting, located at the S 25th St. Xing. Doubt they got much service if at all in the CR era though.

I took a bike ride on the E&N today. As a whole, it's about 85% public trail now in various segments. A year or so ago, they extended the trail about a mile from Penn Pump Park to Hackett Park. The trail goes right through the old Crayola plant. The best part is all three tracks are still there ...

Also look at the Ironton. Into the CR era unit coal trains for Essroc were still being delivered to the Ironton. That was pretty much the only thing keeping the Ironton going at this time. The coal arrived via the C&F Branch. Then, also in 1983 just like the E&N, the C&F is severed as a ...

Another thing to consider regarding the E&N is that once the south end was abandoned, it could only be serviced from the north at Stockertown by the Cement Secondary LNE job. Prior to '82 or '83 Conrail had its own local called AB-2 that ran from Allentown over the Lehigh Line and did work at Ea...

Indeed the bridges were somewhat problematic. Mike also said the West Easton bridges on the E&N were 10 mph even back in the 1960's. From a railfan perspective I think I'd be standing a good distance away if a heavy LV coal train was going over them. And by the time CR came along supposedly one ...

In short, the Nazareth Branch was constructed by the LNE in 1901 to access the cement region near the Nazareth area. It wasn't until the LNE absorbed the Lehigh & Lackawanna and acquired the line from Benders to Bath and the Northampton Railroad from Bath to Martins Creek that the Nazareth Branc...

The Bath Wye is out of service, but interestingly this past Winter, NS was doing some work with an American crane in the area and they parked it and two mow gons on the old team track in the middle of the wye overnight.

Hercules seems to only get 1 or 2 cars per month. Then they accumulate in the plant for a couple months but usually only 1 or 2 will leave at a time as well. The cars can usually be seen from Rt. 33 on the tracks on the left as a previous poster mentioned, but what is strange is that the left hand t...

The buildings adjacent to the casino were part of the Bethlehem Steel forge. Today it is operated by Lehigh Heavy Forge and they continue to use rail service by the LVRM. The coke works was at the site of the Intermodal yard today.

The LV from East Penn Jct. up to Race St. is R.J. Corman. If they would rebuild the line, who would serve the plant? Years ago before the bridge in Darktown was removed there was an interest in rebuilding the line then too. Although an interesting proposal, unless they would plan on some really big ...

Speaking of that, I believe there was some talk of forming a short line on the E&N. And then after that is when CR sold it for the whopping $1. Coincidence?

I just want to point out that the information on the Jersey Central Lines web site link is correct inasmuch as the CNJ's Easton & Western (E&W) Branch was removed in 1976 and was already out of service prior to that. Pfizer was located on the Lehigh Valley's Easton & Northern (E&N) B...
