This is just trolling, right? If not, please list all of the alternative station sites in midtown.

In Washington, if you have time to get away from Union Station, there’s an excellent German restaurant, Cafe Berlin, about 10 minutes walk up Mass Ave. Great food and an excellent seasonal rotation of German beers (each served in an appropriate brewery-specific glass).

GD’s founders must be from Buffalo. In addition to wings, they have Beef on Weck. Food is generally fine (haven’t been to the Lorton location), but they are sports bars—many TVs and very loud.

This was an embarrassing mistake, and needs to be corrected. But let’s be real. Other than quirky, timetable-obsessed railfans (I include myself in that group), how many paying passengers were going to go to the pdf of a “printed” timetable for the NEC, and scroll down to p. 9 to find the Valley Fly...

The 2/1/71 GTW TT still lists the ticket agent as located at SBUS. This combined with the facts that 1) GTW couldn’t have served Bendix (west of the PC/GTW split) and 2) no evidence of GTW serving another station in that era, I’m confident in saying that GTW served SBUS to the end. The 3/71 OG says ...

for about the last 45 days Crescent time keeping has been much better. South bound you can be 30 minutes late at Danville and leave CLT on time. if so most times will lave ATL on time. Leave ATL on time - About 1/3 - 1/2 time will be close to on time at NOL. You can usually know that if close to on...

ExCon90 wrote: Mon Sep 16, 2019 1:59 pm Did GTW service through SBUS last right up until Amtrak, or did it cease earlier? I can't find it right quick.
Interesting question. The GAS website refers to SBUS as being abandoned in 1970, but not sure I believe that. I have 1971 GTW TT at home, but that’s not much use at the moment.

It would be interesting to see if there are any maps showing passenger service in the 1950s. There is not a lot of new track out there (actually a lot less track) than in the 1950s so it would be a good queue to what is viable in a fairly short order. Some years back, NARP prooduced a series of his...

There is almost no case for Richmond-C’ville as a rail connection. BB provides a slow, indirect route, with almost no intermediate business. Even as a bus connection, it’s tough. Other than the Amtrak Thruways, I don’t think there is currently any service. I doubt there is a lot of Richmond-Roanoke ...

A minor nitpick Why aren't passengers allowed to wait on the platform at the PTC? Portland is the only station I've ever been to where staff reprimanded you for standing on the platform to wait for a train. What's the reasoning? Didn’t know about Portland, but this is an issue all along the NEC, an...

And, just to be clear, I agree with cowford that, based on FY18 vs. pre-extension, the extension has not been a success ridership-wise. It did produce a new maintenance/layover facility, however, and reduced some of the parking demand in Portland. But this all gets back to the purpose of the extensi...

Hmm. Flat ridership with an increase in frequency from 2x to 5x? That’s some pessimism. I can easily imagine a big boost in Brunswick ridership. The question is whether they will be new riders or more cannibalization of Portland ridership.

New Orleans - Mobile - Montgomery - Atlanta would make a nice Regional, That was the route of the Crescent up until around 1969. It was, I think, the Southerner (??) that ran via Birmingham and Meridian (as the Amtrak version of the Crescent does) It would a good route still except for the station ...

Believe several successful corridors started with the equivalent. The transcontinental Sunset was always little more than a railfan fantasy.

Why do you say that? Hard to imagine anyone being more difficult than CSX. Perhaps you're referring to PTC requirements? The problem with the shortline ownership is that they may drop maintenance standards to meet the limited freight needs. They could easily drop the standards so that MAS is, to pu...
