When did the company complete the program of repositioning the MU hoses from above the deck to the front pilots. Recently saw a pic of several 5500's taken in 1968 with hoses above the pilots. I came on the scene in 1964 and the only 5300 hundreds I came across at that time with the high hoses were ...

I think Brian Solomon is an expert. Always go with a B&A man. Signal line on north side of RofW is also consistent with B&A practice between Chester and Westfield as documented by several old photos between these locations.B&A

After 0 replies and 195 views on this topic and almost a month of research am able to answer my own question. Will share my results for others with any interest: PT-1 Tenders built Beach Grove 1943 ATS Equipment on right rear tender deck. PT-2 Tender built Beach Grove 1943 Not ATS Equipped PT-3 Tend...

Just viewed an overhead picture of the rear deck on a PT tender behind locomotive 6011. No ATS equipment box is visible. Thought all NYC tenders carried this equipment on the right side of the deck immediately behind the coal bunker and the Reset Box was located beneath it under the right side sill ...

The number (whatever it turns out to be) must also include the M-1a / AF16 locomotives kept at Southport for run-thru service to DeWitt.

Allow me to further the above post. Running against the current of traffic (slang: run reverse) was not at all uncommon and was an operating procedure used to keep traffic moving when a track was out of service. This happened all the time in the summer when MofW worked on track maintenance and the r...

Clearance Form A when delivered with the D-R Order would state the condition of the block as would the train order signal displayed at New Florence. No mention of MBS Rules would be made on these documents; the knowledge of a qualified engineer would provide the safeguards to advance the train in th...

The train dispatcher has a great responsibility for this collision. The correct manner to set up this movement would have the DS first go to Seward and issue a Form J Order at that location. This order could not have been made complete until the DS ascertained that the switches & signals governi...

My Dad arranged a lease with the NYC for the Freight Station at Halfway, N.Y. in 1950 for his company. This station being on the Auburn Road between Martisco & Skaneateles Jct. Worked out there frequently to earn allowance $'s and observed many passings of the westbound day psgr train. Never rec...

Note the Beeliner sitting across the insulated joints adjacent to the Dwarf Signal. A Tower had several of these Dwarf Signals set back account of the curvature on the leads to protect equipment sitting on station tracks. There was always a supply of grain doors (used when grain was shipped in box c...

Just viewed a photo on another website taken yesterday of the automatic signals at Fonda NY. They were numbered 371-1 & 371-2. Highest MP on the Mohawk was always 280; how is this new numbering possible with signals being numbered to the tenth of a mile? Before directing my comments to a more pr...

You are certainly correct in that the #2 power plant is a mirror image of the #1. The first second generation units with extended range dynamic brakes I was exposed to were SD-35's, these (plus the 40 series, 40-2 series and 38 series[AC, DC, @ -2's] 45 series) all had a door with latches on both si...

Just viewed pic on another website taken 03/69 @ Motor Storrage in New Haven. Very clear shot of 5006 & 2016 MU'ed nose- to- nose. Two jumper cables are used to accommodate this purpose. One appears to be a standard 27pt MU cable & standard recepticles. The other cable is smaller in diameter...

Just saw a photo on another site dated 1978 that shows side view of a UP DD-35. The #1 engine had the typical dynamic brake blister with the sheet metal door equipped with two latches that would provide access to the three extended range contactors. The #2 engine dynamic brake blister did not have t...
