Re: Dexter Sulphite Pulp & Paper location?

I caught that topographical map showing the west plant being served by rail a little bit earlier, too. I was wondering earlier how a paper mill existed at that time without rail service (Even today, that's a rarity), and it was partly why I wasn't sure the west plant was the right one here. Is it te...

So that one was called Dexter Sulphite Pulp & Paper? There were three paper mills in Dexter, I believe. All appear to be served by the same connection to the Central. There's the one you've pictured on the West side of the highway bridge, and two just out of view on the opposite side of the brid...

I believe https://www.historicaerials.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; perhaps has what you need here. There's a wye off the NYC branch on the topographical maps. The site isn't working so great for me right now, but the yard at the end is approximately here. 44.008630, -...

I've heard it was in West Carthage. Unsure exactly where.

Most of the cars don't look too bad (And the Genesis on the rear looks to have escaped unscathed). Pure railfan speculation here, but I wouldn't be surprised if just the lead locomotive and one car or so of the train were complete write-offs. I suspect another railfan might be a bit hasty in editing...

Didn't take long to likely total one of these new locomotives. Glad to see that she did her job in the crash though and that the engineer is alive to tell about it.

My prayers go out for the less fortunate and the families of those that lost their lives here.

At this point, any railfan knows the gameplan anyways. They only needed Harrison to implement these plans as a way to appease a segment of the investing community, since there was nothing unique with the Hunter gameplan that one couldn't learn just by reading a book. They in essence paid for a name,...

Looked in that issue for you, but didn't have any luck. It was the November 1999 issue, if I have the right cover and D&H article.

Anyone know why this particular group were so long lived? The vast majority of the model on BN, including older and newer examples of similar vintage, died at the typical U-Boat retirement age of 15 (Small numbers appeared to have had their lease extended by a year or two, but they're very much the ...

Anyone know if the Wheeling got the Alco trucks shipped back from all the GP35's that got traded to Larry's Truck & Electric, to support their 13 unit fleet of GP35-3's that have Type B's under them? I remember them buying five pairs of trucks off scrapped Green Bay & Western Alco's just to ...

I missed RailCityBob's post the first time through the thread. Is the gazebo gone in front of the depot? I remember when we visited that there was an old gazebo that I seem to recall we were told was going to be restored. It looked pretty old, so I assume it dated back to the days when Rail City was...

The museum that was started after the auction, was open past 1995. I didn't know it existed until I read the December 1995 article in Trains Magazine about Rail City. Sometime after that was published, my family was coming home after picking apples down in Mexico, and I saw the depot as we went by. ...
