Re: Post EHH Changes for CSX

The recent mass retirements of CSX motive power have been quickly followed by sale, so there's no coming back from it unless CSX repurchases or leases locomotives that it has already disposed of. Progress Rail for instance now owns the former CSX AC6000CW fleet, minus the three prototypes that now h...

The AC6000CW fleet that was heavily rebuilt to cure their teething troubles, including installing new GEVO-16 engines to replace the original but unreliable 7HDL power plants, is now gone as well. All retired and sold to Progress Rail except for the three prototypes that got FDL's installed (making ...

Usually seems to be quite a few well cars on those that I see, usually with four modern GE's at the front. What's with the blue light high up on a utility pole at the intersection of Pine Street, Sandstone Drive (The "bypass" to most locals), Clarkson Avenue, and Maple Steet in Potsdam? It...

Sounds like the source for CSX locomotive news is backing off a bit on the mass retirement of SD60's being a done deal. A sign of the times at CSX, with things seemingly changing by the minute. Some other interesting moves have gone on though this year. The fleet of gensets were retired last month f...

Canadian National seems like they'd be a natural, if the price is right. It's mostly their traffic being channeled down the line, the route is in good shape, there's potential value there with intermodal if it's handled correctly with the understanding that it's not going to happen overnight, and Ca...

I forgot about the Eco repowers, D40LF. Maybe the GP60's have a future at CSX then, but the SD70M's and SD70MAC's have been at the center of a lot of rumors that so far have panned out. That they and the CSX fleet of bought new C40/C44-8W's are almost entirely stored, also lends weight that they'll ...

I don't know about roller bearings, but it also used to cause troubles with journal boxes in the old days until the journal oil got some heat built up. Stories out there of long freights that sat overnight somewhere like Maine that couldn't be started. So they'd have to uncouple most of the train, g...

One post EHH change, while already in the works before his demise, is the elimination of all EMD 710 engined power. The SD60 family have just been retired en masse, the SD80MAC's went even before Harrison entered the picture, the SD70ACe's are now all gone, and the SD70M's and remaining SD70MAC's ar...

Outside of railfans and some members of the rail industry, these refurbished Budd passenger cars easily pass for modern rolling stock to 99% of Via's customer base.

I doubt that perception exists with the Canadian public.

The Adirondack Park isn't really a state park anyways. It's a forest preserve and the state only controls about half of the land within its boundaries. The rest are used for homes, businesses, private forestland, farming, etc. There are highways, airports, and rail lines within the park. There is ev...

Sad to see her go and it's unfortunate it won't be repurposed for recreation, but nice to see a beautiful bridge take up her role and help prepare this line for the decades ahead. Sometimes it feels much too soon when a historic bridge is lost, especially in the highway world. But it's hard to argue...

If this is the right entry, it was in the July 2004 issue with an Iraq Railway locomotive on the cover. The entry in the Abandonments/Acquisitions log on page 15 says the "Delaware & Hudson Railway Company (Canadian Pacific Railway) to abandon the Troy Branch, 1.3 miles, extending from MP T...

If you have a search term or two that I can use, I can search for it using my Trains DVD.

I had tried Watervliet several days ago, and didn't have any luck.
