Thank's, but I am actually interested in the last date when New York rapid transit passenger cars operated by trolley pole in revenue service. The question came to mind when seeing pole-equipped RT cars at Seashore and Shore Line. Which of those cars cars would have actually been equipped with poles...

Trolley poles on the early New York Subway

by polybalt ¦  Mon Sep 17, 2007 3:20 pm ¦  Forum: NYCT MTA Subway, PATH and SIRT ¦  Topic: Trolley poles on the early New York Subway ¦  Replies: 7 ¦  Views: 3849

I know that early in the last century several New York rapid transit lines (all BMT I assume?) operated in some locations from trolley wire instead of third rail. Does anyone know the date of the last trolley pole operation in New York?

Thanks

MARCs 10 electric locos cover all Penn Line service am I right? I don't think MARC has ever had enough of the electrics actually running to provide 100% of the rush hour service on the Penn line. Maintenance, repairs, and installation of upgrades is done by Amtrak and they take care of their own mo...

Seashore Carbarn Name

Could someone familiar with Seashore tell me the name of the small old two track carbarn furthest south, closest to Log Cabin Road? It is only one car long.

Thanks

Second hand coaches for MARC

The original poster was trying to identify existing cars that could be used on MARC. Since second-hand METRA gallery cars are already operating on the MARC Brunswick line, I assume he is looking for cars that can be used on the Camden and Penn lines. Both lines require cars that can load and unload ...

Trolley wire material

Today's new LRT lines have generally standarized on 350 MCM grooved hard-drawn copper. It is somewhat larger than 0000. As far as I know, only Denver uses a bronze trolley. Where catenary is used, a 500 MCM stranded copper messenger is used, and acts as a feeder in addition to messenger. Where singl...

Pans and poles

On systems that normally used poles, I think the reason for a pan on a locomotive was for switching freight cars. Flat switching a yard is a real pain with poles, since the locomotive changes direction every 30 seconds or so. By adding a pan, the need for a person to act as trolley hop when back- po...
