Perhaps the NYT made a mistake? The platforms in Larchmont and Mamaroneck are most certainly listed as 10 cars in the official MNR ETT. Track charts even though official are not always accurate, but usually are. There are a few platforms that are different in actual length than what the ETT says. So...

CP 109 Gets Cut In This Weekend

The long delayed CP 109 will go into service very early this Saturday morning. I bet all the buffs will be out well before sunrise for this one.

No, ACSES will not enforce train separation distances, the cab signal system will continue to do that. The ACSES system employed by MNR will not use satellite signals or GPS to control train movement. Rather this will be done using a data radio and track based transponder system. All signalling devi...

When PTC is fully implemented it will slow down train operations considerably. In fact some things that are operationally possible now, will no longer be possible. The rules reflecting these changes will be put into practice gradually over next several months. So there really is no need to worry abo...

The video is 720p in the interior cameras. The front facing I believe is 1080p.

How long before they hang new catenary wire in the yard??
No, still working on the Ann st bridge. All tracks (except trk 1) in dock yard are disconnected at CP 400 and CP 401.

Hudson channel 1 Harlem channel 2 New Haven West channel 3 New Haven East channel 4 Yards channel 5 Hudson line switches to channel 2 south of CP 8. There is no GCT channel, all mainline track south of CP 8 is channel 2. Places where radio channels change are clearly labeled on the stations page of ...

Well another track wouldn’t fix much in the Bronx on the Hudson line. They would also have to reconfigure 3 stations Marble Hill, University Heights and Morris Heights. What’s unusual about those stations is that the platforms are on the inside track, well track 2 side. Track 4 is the express track....

This has been done already and it didn’t work!!!!! The football trains with MNR and NJT were duds, they cancelled the service and wasted money qualifying crews to move empty trains as an experiment. There was never a demand for the service, it was all political. Besides you can’t qualify this idea o...

RearOfSignal, you ask: (paraphrasing) "Why waste money on this if we are already losing money on lousy service?" Well, for one thing, it might actually save some money to run 1 train back and forth between Newark and Stamford or Hempstead instead of 1 between Newark and Penn and another b...

Some degree of through-running would be beneficial from an operational and equipment viewpoint, if not direct demand, interpersonal relationships between states, unions, companies, politicians, etc. Why should government funded agencies provide service for which there is limited to little demand? W...

ASI works fine for now, and MNR does not want to screw around any more with PTC than is already necessary.

There are not that many spare locomotives just hanging around GCT. You're making something very simple, into something very difficult. They would just loop, or send it our to Harmon as a deadhead after the morning rush, or perhaps even later in the day during the evening rush if the head end was bad...

So you are saying they let a computer select the people they want to test not even knowing their experience that is crazy. Also when they post a job for locomotive engineers I hope they don’t let a computer pick the people to take the test because they will be not smart, but who knows I applied for...

MNR uses a randomized recruitment process. So out of the 30,000 applicants with the last posting they will randomly select (via computer) a few hundred or so to move on with the process. Since it is random the system may look over those who are more qualified. Only a small percentage of those who ap...
