Re: The Likelihood of a New Metra Line in the Western Suburb

I don't think we really need another Chicago-Elgin commuter line. The suburb-to-suburb commuter line proposed a long time ago for the EJ&E would be more useful. Unfortunately, the increased use of the former J by CN for freight may may make this a lost opportunity. Unfortunately, I was in a hur...

The Likelihood of a New Metra Line in the Western Suburbs

Before CN's acquisition of the EJ&E, the CN Freeport Sub use to see much more traffic on a daily basis than it does now. With the acquisition of the EJ&E and its Leithton Sub, CN can easily navigate around the Chicagoland area without having to use the Freeport or other railroads. I have rea...

Ever since the recent outcries over the glitches in the new Ventra farecard system became apparent, wishes of the RTA disbanding popped into my head. This doesn't come as a shock to me, and if the RTA does go under and CTA, Metra and Pace each become separate entities once again, well, that doesn't ...

After reviewing the dizzying list of capital projects that Metra is considering, my guess is that the agency will first tackle those projects which require less time and money to complete before it takes on those that require more to finalize. Besides, I don't see the agency retiring any locomotives...

Was it alone? It may have been heading out for repairs (or coming back from same...)
Yes, it was alone, and it was facing west.

On Thursday September 26th, while waiting for Train 1244 at the Brookfield station, I saw 112 on the BNSF Line. I filmed it, but have yet to put the video onto YouTube. Today, while riding the Milwaukee District West Line, I saw the 144 in CP's Bensenville Yard. I'm not sure what the story behind th...

In summer of 2012, a deal was made that F40PHM-2's 209-212 would be sent to BNSF in exchange for MP36's 401-405. I have a question for you. Have you gotten word of exactly when 209-212 are going to the MD/NCS Lines in exchange for 401-405? I saw 404 pushing an inbound train at River Grove station t...

Hi all... There are numerous videos of CTA trains on my YouTube channel, and each time that I filmed trains before Thursday's incident, no one has told me that I cannot film trains on CTA property, so I am not sure why I am banned from doing so all of a sudden! Is anyone aware of any ordinance by C...

In summer of 2012, a deal was made that F40PHM-2's 209-212 would be sent to BNSF in exchange for MP36's 401-405. So I guess it's safe to assume that 401-405 have been converted to 3Cs. I heard that the reason behind the MP36s' removal from the BNSF Line was to convert approximately 10 of them into ...

Here's a question I would like to raise about the F40PHM-2s: Is anyone aware of when the rebuild program's scheduled to begin for these locomotives? According to the Metra Service Alerts that I receive to my Hotmail inbox, over the past two months, there have been a lot of delays/cancellations on th...

They dumped the 400s on the MILW/NCS and replaced them with the Winnebagos that were assigned there. Now we have even more break-downs on those lines. Hello and good morning, Is this actually true? From which line did the F40Ms come from, and to which line did the MP36s go? My best guess as of righ...

Hi all, I would like to inform you of two incidents that I have been a victim of over the course of two days, and they involve filming on CTA property. Based on last year's event, some of the locomotives that were on display at National Train Day 2012 at CUS were also on display at Franklin Park Railroad Days. I am unaware if that will be the case this year, however, there seems to be a Metra cab car that is on display every year at the event. View...
