The LED station sign, as well as the headlights, are covered with FRA 1 glass. If the hail, twigs, locust, etc. get to the LEDs then we have bigger problems.
The prototype and one production diner are in service. Two have been delivered to Hialeah for acceptance, set up and (eventually) released for service.
From what I read, the new diners are faster rated in track speed than the heritage diners. The old baggage cars also had a slower track speed. So when the diners are completed which I hope is soon, hopefully they could raise the train speeds where possible, The original Viewliner sleepers are still...
The consensus is NYP has overshot it's capacity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5XsTmzfqDs The time is long past for serious consideration as to why all of NJT and LIRR commuters must go to NYP. Diverting some LIRR trains to GCT will help. Even so, New York is of sufficient size to warrant a third...
They were the Atlanta and Augusta in the latest videos! What ever happen to the Albany and Annapolis? The Annapolis was delivered back in November and has been seen earning her keep: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4617400 The Albany went back to Elmira and hasn't been heard fr...

Unless you "sign up and pay up" the photos posted at "that other site" are, at best, "thumbnails".
Bingo. Amtrak owns the viewliner design and just has a builder work from their design. I'm not 100% sure but I thought Superliner and Cali Car were the same. That's another one of those railfan-isms that isn't. Having spent time under all four types of cars: Superliner, Superliner II, California an...
They're 15 years old. FRA crashworthiness regs haven't changed THAT much since 2002 that the whole design is obsolete and has to be chucked with the bathwater. It's not like surviving atmospheric reentry from lower earth orbit is a new feature of Midwest corridor routes. Actually, those cars are 17...
Federal crashworthiness standards have likely been changed since the Surfliner cars were built, rendering their design unusable. The Tier 1 crash standards of 49CFR238 have not changed. In theory anyone can ink an order for more California Cars and place them into service and still be within the le...
Define "operator." Brightline will operate on FECR tracks directed by FECR dispatchers but will have Brightline T&E (or whatever they decide to call them) crews. The Railway Age piece is a little confusing as Fortress took all of FECI private including the now sold railroad.
I still think this equipment will end up in Amtrak livery. Note that the engines are equipped with Amtrak tone horns rather than the FEC's "bleating cow" tone. All the Chargers coming out of Sacramento, whether Multistate, WsDOT, CalTrains or BLF, are coming with the same horn. No need to...
