It is ironic, that the article in the Altoona Mirror was located in the "Obituaries" section of the paper that day: http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/conte ... 62717.html

If you do get a lead on more shares, would you be so kind as to email me direct if you don't buy them all? I also am interested in increasing my investment in the A&A, aside from my single share and the hundreds of volunteer hours on top of those I got paid for. Not to mention buying supplies fo...

Thats a good estimate, unfortunately the timetable has always been changing. I'd say, do your stuff now while you can. It will probably be a matter of a day or two notice when the axe falls.

Alto tower was still in operation as of Jan 14 (I haven't been back to work since then).

Log onto railroadradio.net and pull up the east slope stream. You should be able to hear the helpers calling alto when they come on duty.

Going on the reciprocating steam engine route, it might be possible to segregate a portion of the boiler feedwater to be electrically pre-heated before injection. If one was willing to do heavy modification to the tender, one could re-equip the tender trucks with traction motors for dynamic braking....

If you are asking about a turn of the century classic 2-cylinder reciprocating steam engine, then the short & simple answer is that it can't be done. At best you might get a few hours out of it, and its simply because of the inefficiencies of the method of converting thermal energy into mechanic...

As part of assembling info for the "roster" of my model railroad empire, I am doing an all-time compilation of the locomotives used on the Attica, NY - Cuba, NY line which is today known as the Arcade & Attica.

I snagged several more pictures of 18 & train while back in NY this past weekend. Just uploaded the 7 best to NERails photo archive, here are my two favorite: UGH!!!! The site won't post pics that are 850px wide. Which is fine, I understand the need to cater to the lowest common denominator. But...

Ben, pictures previously have show the K&K coach was relegated to display at the Curriers Depot. While I was in Arcade this past weekend, the car was not in the train nor at the station, so I would hypothesize that it hasn't left the display track.

I've long advocated spinning No18 for a special event. My argument here is that the part of the steam engine that tugs at the heart strings the most is the beloved chugging. While it is upgrade both ways, the high point is closer to Curriers. This means that the amount of time that No18 actually wor...

Personally? I do not like the turbo's whine. I can't speak for other engines, but the two that I have worked with have no stokers, water pumps or boosters. The only two steam powered auxillaries are the turbo-generator and the air pumps. the turbos exhaust direct to the atmosphere, but at least on t...

That I'm afraid I can't help you with. I never lead a restoration effort, only participated in projects already underway on two railroads.

I'll have to defer to others on that question, sorry.
